City Council meets on Jan. 18


Mesquite City Council will meet on Jan. 18 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B followed by the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. The public attending the meeting will have the option of wearing a face covering but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Jan. 18 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216- 6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Jan. 18 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

Mesquite to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 15

Every January, the City of Mesquite along with the Mesquite NAACP celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade through downtown Mesquite hosted by the Mesquite NAACP. The parade is open to any business, organization, church or school that would like to participate. The celebration will continue at 1 p.m. with a community celebration co-hosted by the City of Mesquite and the Mesquite NAACP at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. The event will include speeches, choir presentations, and dances. Learn more.

Shaun Rabb to speak at Mesquite Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration


Shaun Rabb, award-winning journalist and Fox 4 News anchor, will serve as keynote speaker at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration starting at 1 p.m. at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. Performances by local church choirs and Mesquite ISD student groups will also be featured. A candle lighting ceremony symbolizing the City of Mesquite’s commitment to uniting its citizens will conclude the service. Learn more.

Mesquite receiving citizen input through community survey


The City of Mesquite is conducting a Mesquite Community Attitude and Satisfaction Survey to get input from its citizens on programs and services. Randomly selected Mesquite citizens are being contacted and receiving an invitation to participate in the survey questionnaire by mail or online through the end of January to ensure a statistical, scientific response of the entire city is captured. The survey will then be open to the public in February for additional input. Learn more.

City holiday closure on Jan. 17


City offices and facilities will be closed for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 17, except for the Mesquite Metro Airport and recreation centers. Trash and recycling will not be collected. Collection will resume on resident’s next scheduled collection day. View a complete list of closures.

Mesquite Arts Center Main Gallery Exhibition features Jay Hendricks

Please join the Mesquite Arts Council as they welcome Texas artist Jay Hendrick. "Clear As Mud" will be inside the Mesquite Arts Center's Main Gallery. Where water and land meet there is mud – combining resistant yet ultimately friendly elements of wet and dry. Clear as Mud squished together multiple attempts at painting into singular endeavors. This exhibit is open now through March 19, 2022 on Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more.

Mesquite Razzoo’s Cajun Café open after remodel


Mesquite Razzoo’s Cajun Café is open for diners to enjoy Cajun-inspired dishes after a recent facelift. The restaurant, located at 3712 Towne Crossing Blvd, was given the "glow-up treatment" from the inside and out. Learn more, including menu items and hours of operation.
