District 1 and 3 City Councilmembers sworn in


Prior to the Dec. 20 Mesquite City Council Meeting, Jeff Casper, Jeff Casper, Place 1 and Jennifer Vidler, Place 3, were installed as newly elected Councilmembers during a swearing-in ceremony. During the meeting, the City Council unanimously selected Councilmember Kenny Green, Place 2 to serve as Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember Tandy Boroughs, Place 4, to serve as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem. Both will serve in those roles for one-year terms. Learn more.

Economic Development featured in Texas CEO Magazine


Economic Development Director Kim Buttram and Manager Lexie Woodward were featured in the November issue of Texas CEO Magazine. The article focused on female executives working in the Mesquite, Plano, Abilene and Irving-Las Colinas area. Buttram and Woodward were featured for bringing an "industrial revolution to the Rodeo Capital of Texas." Learn more.

City holiday closures on Dec. 24 and Dec. 27


City offices and facilities will be closed for the Christmas Eve and Christmas holiday on Friday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 27 except for the Mesquite Metro Airport and recreation centers. Trash will be collected on Friday, Dec. 24 but recycling will not be collected. Trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, Dec. 27. Collection will resume on resident’s next scheduled collection day. View a complete list of closures.

The City continues to promote alternate driving directions to shoppers for key destinations in Mesquite, such as Town East Mall, with the www.cityofmesquite.com/ShoppingRoutes webpage. The page offers ways to shop more and drive less by using different roads to travel and avoid traffic.

Properly dispose of fats, oils and grease during the holidays


Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) is the residue left over from cooking meat, butter, sauces, oil and dairy products. FOG and debris poured down drains can cause expensive sewer backups to homeowners. Used holiday cooking oil may be recycled for free at the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center, 11234 Plano Road, or at a drop-off location listed on the Defend Your Drains website at www.defendyourdrainsnorthtexas.com. Sales Tax

City announces sales tax activity for October 2021


The City of Mesquite’s December sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of October, is 18.1% above the amount reported for the same period last year. The increase in sales tax activity this period is driven by general retail sales, manufacturing, wholesale trade along with building and home furnishing. Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the City’s General Fund, which supports services such as police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries and public works.
