Mesquite announces finalists for Police Chief


The City of Mesquite has announced four finalists for Police Chief. The finalists will participate in panel interviews in Mesquite August 25 – 26, and the City plans to select one of the finalists as its new Police Chief by the end of September. Learn more about the finalists.

Fire Department recognized in Best Practices Recognition Program


At the Aug. 16 City Council meeting, the Mesquite Fire Department was recognized by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association for exceeding all the identified Best Practices for Texas Fire Departments. Only 26 departments in Texas have received the Best Practices Designation, including Mesquite. Learn more.

On Aug. 16, Mesquite honored four City employees with Real. Texas. Service. Employee Champion awards during the City Council meeting. The program celebrates employees who provide exemplary customer service and achieve accomplishments that merit special recognition. The following employees were recognized: Joe Martinez - Planning and Development Department, Quo Lucas - Mesquite Animal Services, Jarrod Thurman - Mesquite Fire Department and Johnny Snell - Public Works Department. MPD promotes Angela Hensley to Public Safety Dispatch Manager


The Mesquite Police Department announced the promotion of Angela Hensley to Public Safety Dispatch Manager. Angela began her career with the Mesquite Police Department in 1998. She will oversee the department’s Public Safety Dispatch division, which is responsible for four major sections of public safety. Learn more.

The Mesquite Police Department and the City of Mesquite would like to congratulate the Mesquite Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association MCPAAA) for winning the 2020 Texas Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association Membership Award. Mesquite Animal Shelter participates in Clear the Shelters


Adopt the "pawfect" furry friend at the Mesquite Animal Shelter, 1650 Gross Road, during the month long Clear the Shelters event from Aug. 23 to Sept. 19. Clear the Shelters is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign where animal shelters team up with NBC and Telemundo TV stations to find loving homes for pets in need. Learn more.

New solid waste ordinance goes into effect Oct. 1


As a part of its new Clean City Initiative, the Mesquite City Council approved new requirements for its solid waste customers that go into effect Oct. 1, which include trash being secured in trash bags within an approved trash container, specific times on when the trash can be set out for collection and limits on bulky items. For more information call the Solid Waste Division at 972-216-6285. Mesquite Championship Rodeo


The Mesquite Championship Rodeo (MCR) is at the Mesquite Arena, 1818 Rodeo Drive for the summer. MCR will take place every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. until Aug. 28. For more than 60 years, MCR has entertained families with thrilling rodeo events such as saddle bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing, team roping and more. Purchase tickets.

The Mesquite Arts Theatre is excited to announce their next show, The Island of Dr. Libris. August sales tax report

City announces sales tax activity for June 2021


The City of Mesquite’s August sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of June, is 14.0% above the amount reported for the same period last year when the pandemic restrictions were in place. The increase in sales tax activity this period is driven by home furnishings, retail sales and food and beverage services. Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the City’s General Fund, which supports services such as police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries and public works.
