City Council meets July 6


Mesquite City Council will meet on Tuesday, July 6 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B followed by the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. The public attending the meeting will have the option of wearing a face covering but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on July 6 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on July 6 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. Celebrate Safely

Use and possession of fireworks is illegal in Mesquite


In advance of July 4th, the City of Mesquite has announced it will aggressively address the illegal possession or use of fireworks, as well as celebratory gunfire and driving while intoxicated (DWI) through its “Celebrate Safely” campaign. As a part of the public education efforts, Municipal Judge Detra Hill, recorded a special video message. During Independence Day weekend there will be escalated enforcement with the deployment of police and fire staff into neighborhoods. City holiday closure on July 5


City offices and facilities will be closed for the Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 5, except for the Mesquite Metro Airport, recreation centers and City Lake Aquatic Center. Trash and recycling will not be collected. Collection will resume on resident’s next scheduled collection day. View a complete list of closures.

Mesquite seeks input from residents on its budget


The City of Mesquite is offering its residents an opportunity to provide their input on the city’s budget using an online survey at www.cityofmesquite.com/Budget through July 7. A portion of the data collected will be presented at a Budget Town Hall meeting on July 13 and used by the City Council at their July 17 Budget Workshop. Learn more. How to address loud music complaints and disturbances


The City of Mesquite has announced new ways the public can help address concerns of loud volumes of music or noises in their neighborhoods. For general noise disturbances, like loud music, the public can report it to the Mesquite Police Department by using the nonemergency phone number 972-285-6336. Animal noise disturbances can be reported to the Mesquite Animal Services at 972-216-6283. Details of the ordinance and noise standards are available at www.cityofmesquite.com/Noise.

How to file as a candidate for City Council


The City of Mesquite has launched a new webpage to assist those who want to consider filing their candidacy to serve on the City Council. The 2021 City election, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and Councilmembers for Places 1 – 6, will be held on Nov. 2. The first day to file is July 17 and the last day to file is Aug.16. The webpage is www.cityofmesquite.com/CouncilCandidate and the public may contact the City Secretary’s Office at 972-216-6401 or at CouncilCandidate@cityofmesquite.com for additional information.

Historic Mesquite receives Preservation Achievement Award


Historic Mesquite, Inc. (HMI) has been recognized by Preservation Dallas with a Preservation Achievement Award for the recently completed Webb Crownover Cabin Restoration at Opal Lawrence Historical Park, 701 E. Kearney Street. Considered to be one of the oldest buildings in eastern Dallas County, the circa 1845 cabin was most likely the first home of Capt. A.W. Webb and his wife, Lucinda Crownover. Missoula Children’s Theatre, July 6 – 10


The Missoula Children's Theatre Camp is headed to Mesquite. Hosted inside the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Avenue, this one-week camp offers kids, ages 6 to 17, the experience of being on a professional stage. All children must be available from July 6 through July 10. The camp is $20 per child.
