City Council meets Nov. 2


Mesquite City Council will meet on Nov. 2 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B, followed by a Work Session at 6:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. All persons present at the meeting location must observe social distancing by remaining a minimum of six (6) feet from other meeting participants and must wear a covering over their nose and mouth. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Nov. 2 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Nov. 2 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com.  View meeting agendas online. North Texas municipal water district contract signed

Mesquite announces new water rate structure with NTMWD


After nearly four years of negotiations, Mesquite residents can anticipate a better water rate structure in the future from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD). The new contract the City of Mesquite ceremoniously signed with the 13 Member Cities and NTMWD, will have a significant impact on Mesquite water customers over the next few decades. Anticipating this settlement, no rate increases for Mesquite Water Customers were implemented for the upcoming year. One of Mesquite’s representatives on the NTMWD Board of Directors, Terry Anderson, joined Mayor Pro Tem Councilmember, District 3 Robert Miklos and City Manager Cliff Keheley for the signing ceremony. Learn more.

Mesquite offers free mental counseling and referral services


The City of Mesquite has announced it is offering its residents access to free mental health counseling and referral services through a new partnership with the AZAR Foundation. Residents can call 833-298-9111 to schedule a virtual or in-person session for individuals, couples and groups. Learn more. Watch the press conference.

Recovery Mesquite

Financial assistance for Mesquite residents impacted by COVID-19


The City of Mesquite still has funds available to aid its residents who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds can be used to pay rent, mortgage and utilities (electric, gas, internet). Residents can receive as much as $1,500 per month for six months, depending on eligibility. The City’s assistance program is a part of the Recovery Mesquite campaign and is funded through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Learn more.

Utility Billing Office offering longer-term payment plans


On Jan. 5, 2021, the City of Mesquite will resume water disconnections if there is a past due balance. Longer-term payment plans are available to help residents who are struggling to pay their City water bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City can offer a payment plan that fits their unique situation. Call the Utility Billing Office at 972-216-6208 (press 0) to discuss your options.

STAR Transit offers free rides to voters


Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3 and STAR Transit is offering free, round-trip rides to local polling places, encouraging all eligible voters to participate in this year’s presidential election. Reservations must be made in advance. Learn more.

Mesquite seeks public input on ADA survey


As part of formalizing an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan, the City of Mesquite is looking for the community to participate in an ADA survey to address any specific concerns regarding accessibility. The survey will be available until Nov. 6. at www.cityofmesquite.com/ADA and printed versions are available at City facilities. Learn more.

The City of Mesquite announced Mesquite Recycles Day will return on Nov. 14 at Poteet High School, 3300 Poteet Drive, from 8 a.m. - noon. The free event provides Mesquite residents the opportunity to drop off a variety of reusable items, electronic-waste and offers professional document shredding.
