Gus Thomasson

Gus Thomasson Road (Karla Drive to Moon Drive) Reconstruction Project


The Plan: It includes the reconstruction of Gus Thomasson Road from Karla Drive to Moon Drive. The reconstructed roadway will be a four-lane divided thoroughfare with the addition of bicycle lanes, a wider sidewalk and other pedestrian improvements. In addition, there will be drainage, water and sanitary sewer improvements made.

What's happening now: The pedestrian bridge has been installed. Paving of the left turn lane on Gus Thomasson Road has begun, which provides access to Walgreens, 4435 Gus Thomasson Road.

What's next: Concrete will be placed at Oates Drive and Gus Thomasson Road intersection. Additional concrete and street paving will continue on the west side of Gus Thomasson Road.

Estimated completion date: On January 16, the City Council approved the costs to change design plans to eliminate two roundabouts and revise the associated paving and drainage. The City will pursue an aggressive plan that will provide traffic access to the western section of Gus Thomasson by July 2018 and the eastern section of Gus Thomasson by March 2019. The project is scheduled to be fully complete summer of 2019.


Motley

Motley Drive (Gus Thomasson Blvd. to Town East Blvd.) Reconstruction Project


The Plan: It includes the reconstruction of Motley Drive from Gus Thomasson Boulevard to Town East Boulevard. The reconstructed roadway will be a four-lane divided roadway on the north and south ends, and a two-lane divided roadway with some on-street parking through the residential area. In addition, there will be drainage, sanitary sewer and water improvements.


What's happening now: The sidewalk along the southbound lanes is being constructed and the contractor has shifted traffic to the newly constructed southbound lanes.

What's next: Demolition of the northbound lanes has begun. 

Estimated completion date: Summer 2018


Town East Reconstruction

Town East Boulevard (Military Parkway to Skyline Drive) Reconstruction Projects


The Plan: It includes the reconstruction of Town East Boulevard from Military Parkway to Skyline Drive. The reconstructed roadway will be a four-lane divided thoroughfare with two lanes in each direction. In addition, there will be drainage, sanitary sewer and water improvements.


What's happening now: The utility contractor has installed the sewer line. Traffic has been transitioned to allow for the removal of the southbound lanes. Box culverts and junction boxes are also being linked together.

What's next: Removal of the southbound lanes, storm drain installation, extension of utilities, and water line tie-ins. 

Estimated completion date: Fall 2018


Us 80

I-635 to U.S. 80 Service Road Extension and Ramp Reconfiguration


The Plan: This Texas Department of Transportation project will modify the U.S. Highway 80 (U.S. 80) North Galloway Avenue exit ramp and construct a new northbound frontage road along Interstate 635 (I-635) from Gross Road to U.S. 80. It will reconstruct more than 1.6 miles of frontage road and improve access to the I-635/U.S. 80 interchange.


What's happening now: The contractor continues to prepare the outside lane of eastbound U.S. 80 frontage for paving and has begun to remove the I-635 on ramp from Gross Road.

What's next: The contractor will finish the outside lane of the eastbound U.S. 80 frontage road and begin removing the inside lane. 

Estimated completion date: Fall 2018


public hearing

Town East Blvd. Phase 2 (U.S. 80 to Skyline Drive) and Skyline Drive (Town East Blvd. to Peachtree Road) Reconstruction Projects


What's happening now: A public meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 27, regarding preliminary plans for the reconstruction of Town East Boulevard Phase 2 from U.S. 80 to Skyline Drive and the future road project of Skyline Drive from Town East Boulevard to Peachtree Road. The public meeting will be held at Rugel Elementary School cafeteria, 2701 Sybil Drive. Project exhibits will be available for public viewing at 6:30 p.m. and the public meeting will begin at 7 p.m. 

What's next: After the conclusion of the presentations at the public hearing on February 27, the City will provide a feedback survey to each attendee as well as online public access to the survey.


real texas roads

Real. Texas. Roads.


The Plan: It includes the repair of more than 100 miles of residential streets, as well as curbs and sidewalks where needed, over a ten-year period.

What's happening now: Repairs to the first list of residential streets have been completed with 26 streets reconstructed. In addition, the following streets from the second list of roads selected for repairs have also been completed: Canary Circle, Starling Drive, Bluebird Lane, Whipporwill Drive, Cardinal Court, Sesame Place, Harlan Drive and Byrd Drive.

What's next: Construction will continue on the second list of streets. The repair method chosen for each street depends on the existing condition of the street. However, the usual order of repairs is: 1) pavement lifting, 2) localized concrete repair, 3) new surface reconstruction, 4) miscellaneous repairs and cleanup. Estimated completion date: The Real. Texas. Roads. program includes the repair of more than 100 miles of residential streets over a ten-year period. The program is expected to be completed fall 2026. Current construction on the second list of streets is scheduled to be completed spring 2018. Construction on the third-year list of streets will begin summer 2018.
