City Council Election and Proposition A will be held on Nov. 7 The Mesquite City Council unanimously approved the fiscal year 2023-2024 budget on Aug. 21 to add more public safety personnel, more funding for street repairs and reconstruction, and additional services to serve the growing community. The current budget increases the tax rate to .69000 per $100 of ad valorem value. Because of the need for additional revenues to accomplish the goals of the community, state law requires Mesquite voters to approve the tax rate since City revenue will increase by 3.5% or more over last year due to higher property values. Early voting is Oct. 23-Nov. 3, 2023. Election Day is Nov. 7, 2023. For more information, please visit www.cityofmesquite.com/2023TaxElection.

Water rates increasing for City of Mesquite customers The City of Mesquite will implement a 5% increase in water rates effective Oct. 1, 2023. The rate adjustment is due to a 9% increase in the cost of water due to significant costs in the chemicals and labor needed to treat drinking water and major capital investments to ensure adequate water levels are available due to increased demand. To save water and money, the City recommends residents use WaterSmart, a free online service available to Mesquite water customers. To register for WaterSmart, customers will need their billing account number and ZIP code. Reach the portal on a mobile device or web browser at www.mesquitetx.watersmart.com.
