City Council to meet on April 17 at City Hall


Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com or calling 972-216-6244 before 3 p.m. on April 17. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on April 17 p.m. to the City Secretary. Save money and water with WaterSmart


The City of Mesquite has partnered with WaterSmart to offer residents detailed information about household water use. WaterSmart is a free online service that provides tools to understand and manage water use, detect potential leaks, and get the most value from every drop of water used. Mesquite water customers can access all utility data as soon as it becomes available on an hourly, monthly, or daily basis to view water use compared to similar-sized homes by neighborhood, and get access to customized recommendations for how to save water and money. To register for WaterSmart, customers will need their billing account number and an email address. Reach the portal on a mobile device or web browser at www.cityofmesquite.com/WaterSmart.

Pond Hopper Nation’s Kids Fishing Event 


Mesquite Parks and Recreation is partnering with Pond Hopper Nation to provide a fun family fishing event on Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Lake Park, 200 Parkview Street. This free event is designed to educate and provide a hands-on fishing experience for kids. Also included is a free fishing rod and tackle for the first 100 children that arrive. Doggy Derby Day to be held on 

April 22 


Bring your furry friends and enjoy Doggy Derby Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Opal Lawrence Historical Park, 711 E. Kearney Street. The free, Kentucky Derby-themed event will feature a derby hat contest for pets, dog obedience demonstration, and pet-centric vendors. Mesquite Animal Services will be onsite offering pet adoptions and $10 microchipping for pets. Dogs must be leashed at all times and owners must show proof of vaccination to enter. Mesquite to install historical marker honoring conservation camp


On Monday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m., a historical marker will be installed at 402 E. Kimbrough St. Officials from the City of Mesquite, Historic Mesquite, Inc., Mesquite Independent School District and Dallas County Historical Commission will install the Official Texas Historical Marker honoring Mesquite’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Company 850. Civilian Conservation Corps camps were formed across the plains states during the Great Depression by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to put young men to work and abate soil-eroding farming practices. Mesquite’s CCC Company 850 workers helped build levees along the Trinity River and taught sustainable land usage. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/HMI for more information.




Trash Bash picture

KMB to hold Trash Bash on April 29


Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) will host a Trash Bash on Saturday, April 29. Supplies will be available for pick up at the Town East Mall parking lot marquee between 8 and 9 a.m. the day of the event. Volunteers will be provided with trash grabbers, safety vests, disposable gloves, sanitizer, and trash bags.
