Mesquite to install historical marker honoring conservation camp
On Monday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m., a historical marker will be installed at 402 E. Kimbrough St. Officials from the City of Mesquite, Historic Mesquite, Inc., Mesquite Independent School District and Dallas County Historical Commission will install the Official Texas Historical Marker honoring Mesquite’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Company 850. Civilian Conservation Corps camps were formed across the plains states during the Great Depression by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to put young men to work and abate soil-eroding farming practices. Mesquite’s CCC Company 850 workers helped build levees along the Trinity River and taught sustainable land usage.
