City Council to meet March 20


Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 20, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com  or call the City Secretary before 3 p.m. on March 20 at  or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on March 20 to the City Secretary.  View meeting agendas online. Rodeo Parade

Entries sought for Annual Rodeo Parade


The Parks and Recreation Department will present the 65th annual Rodeo Parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 1. The parade entry fee is $40, and the registration deadline is Thursday, March 30. For a map of the parade route or online registration, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/RodeoParade.





Elks Lodge Awards ceremony

Mesquite Elks Lodge honors City officials


On March 13, the Mesquite Elks Lodge #2404 held a dinner and awards ceremony honoring City officials. Award recipients included Mike Gibson as Citizen of the Year, Robert Keith as Police Officer of the Year, and Lane Powell as Firefighter of the Year. The Elks provide financial support to the community such as homeless relief and meals to the Sharing Life warming center, as well as City programs.

City reports sales tax collections for March


The City of Mesquite March sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of January, were 2.2% above the amount reported for the same period last year.  The current increase in sales activity is driven primarily by retail sales and wholesale trade.  Sales tax contributes 27% of the total revenue used to support the General Fund.  The City uses the General Fund for services including police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, neighborhood services and public works.

NTMWD to conduct annual maintenance on water system


The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) will conduct its annual system maintenance process March 6 - April 3. This ensures Mesquite's drinking water is safe. The City works closely with NTMWD to maintain positive water flows and reduce impacts during this time. The process may cause slight odor changes. Mesquite Symphony Orchestra presents "Mother Earth"


The Mesquite Symphony Orchestra will present “Mother Earth” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, in the Mesquite Arts Center Concert Hall, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. Tickets may be purchased online at www.mesquitesymphony.org.
