City Council meets June 20


Mesquite City Council meets June 20 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Face coverings are optional for attendees, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. June 20 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216- 6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on June 20 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

Enforcement of Solid Waste fees begins July 1


As part of Mesquite’s Clean City Initiative, the City Council approved new requirements for its solid waste customers last summer to help beautify Mesquite through the reduction of scattered trash and debris. Fees for violations of the ordinance will begin to be issued beginning July 1. Copeland Park construction 


The Mesquite City Council awarded a construction contract at the June 6 City Council meeting for the new 11-acre Copeland Park. The park, located at Creek Crossing Road and Mesquite Valley Road, will be developed in phases. Read more here.

AMD Applications due June 24


Do you or your neighbors need help with an exterior house or yard project? The 18th Addressing Mesquite Day is on Oct. 1. The last day for homeowners to complete a request form is June 24. STAR Transit public meetings


STAR Transit will hold two public meetings on June 21 at 6:30 p.m. and June 24 at 12:00 p.m. to involve citizen participation regarding potential service changes in Mesquite. NAACP Juneteenth Celebration

Celebrate Juneteenth with the whole family at Mesquite’s third annual Juneteenth Celebration. The Mesquite NAACP is hosting the celebration at the Travis Williams Softball Complex, 1005 New Market Road, on June 18 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be food, music, vendors and more. This event is free.

Jazz Breaks with Sandra Kaye
