City Council to meet March 21 

Mesquite City Council meets March 21 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Face coverings are optional for attendees, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on March 21 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216- 6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on March 21 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. District 1 / Mike Anderson Park Input Meeting


The City of Mesquite and District 1 Councilmember Jeff Casper will host a public meeting on Saturday, March 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. to provide city updates on District 1 and receive citizen input on the design of Mike Anderson Park. The meeting will be held at the future park’s location at 3500 E. Emporium Circle is open to all residents.

Kids Fishing Event on March 26


Mesquite Parks and Recreation is partnering with Pond Hopper Nation to provide a free family fun fishing event  on March 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is designed to educate and provide a hands-on fishing experience and memories for children and families. The first 100 children that attend will receive a free fishing rod and tackle. Enter the 64th annual Rodeo Parade


This year's annual Rodeo Parade will be held on April 2, 2022, starting at 10 a.m. in Downtown Mesquite. The theme is "Real. Texas. Rodeo." and marks the parade's 64th anniversary. Chet Garner, host of the popular show Daytripper, will also be in attendance and filming from the parade. The parade entry fee is $40. Online registration is available at www.cityofmesquite.com/RodeoParade until March 25.

Parks and Rec. Girls Softball League


The City of Mesquite Parks and Recreation's brand new Youth Fast Pitch Softball League's registration is open to girls ages 6 - 14 and ends on Sunday, March 27. Late registration ends on Sunday, April 3. The inaugural season will start on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Games will take place at the newly renovated Mesquite Softball Complex. Sales Tax Activity for March 2022


The March sales tax receipts, which represent January sales activity, for the City of Mesquite, was 15.4 percent above the amount reported for the same period last year. The increase in sales tax activity this period is driven primarily by home furnishings and appliances, fuel, utilities, and retail sales. Sales tax contributes 25 percent of the total revenue used to support the General Fund. The City uses the General Fund for services including police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, neighborhood services and public works.
