Mesquite Animal Shelter participates in Clear the Shelters


Adopt the "pawfect" furry friend at the Mesquite Animal Shelter, 1650 Gross Road, during the month long Clear the Shelters event until Sept. 19. Clear the Shelters is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign where animal shelters find loving homes for pets in need. Learn more.

Each video will focus on various issues and topics in their district as well as news items that affect the entire city. The most recent district video is hosted by Kenny Green, District 2. The Mesquite Public Library was recognized as a ReadPlayTalk Partner at the Aug. 9 Mesquite ISD School Board meeting. ReadPlayTalk is a community-wide effort and community-supported initiative to champion early childhood literacy among Mesquite ISD students. Learn more.

New solid waste ordinance goes into effect Oct. 1


As a part of its new Clean City Initiative, the Mesquite City Council approved new requirements for its solid waste customers that go into effect Oct. 1, which include trash being secured in trash bags within an approved trash container, specific times on when the trash can be set out for collection and limits on bulky items. For more information call the Solid Waste Division at 972-216-6285. 9/11 20th Anniversary Ceremony


On Sept. 11, employees and their families are invited to the Patriot Day ceremony remembering the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony, marking the 20th anniversary of 9/11, will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Mesquite Freedom Park, 1527 N. Galloway Avenue. It will include special presentations, music and ceremonial activities.

As a part of its continuing Recovery Mesquite efforts to help the community move forward and onward from the impacts of the pandemic, the City of Mesquite held its August Community Health Virtual Meeting focusing on the prevention of house fires, health safety tips, the basics of CPR and more with the Mesquite Fire Department. Enjoy the final weekend of the Mesquite Championship Rodeo (MCR) at the Mesquite Arena, 1818 Rodeo Drive. Saturday at 7:30 p.m. is the final rodeo of the summer. Mesquite Arts Center invites vendors to Día de los Muertos celebration


The Mesquite Arts Center is inviting local vendors to take part in their Día de los Muertos celebration in October. On Oct. 30, the Mesquite Arts Center will host the event, celebrating and remembering loved ones that have passed away. The celebration will be at the Mesquite Arts Center,1527 N. Warm weather means mosquitos in Texas. Prevention is the best defense against the West Nile virus. It’s important to remember the four D’s: Dusk and dawn are the times of day mosquitoes are most active and you should try to stay indoors. Dress in long sleeves and pants when you are outside.
