City Council meets Aug. 16 Mesquite City Council will meet on Monday, Aug. 16 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B followed by the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. The public attending the meeting will have the option of wearing a face covering but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Aug. 16 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216- 6244. Mesquite celebrates 5th year of safe driving campaign The first day of school in Mesquite was this week and the City of Mesquite encouraged safe driving with the “Drive Like Your Family Lives Here” campaign that began in 2017. Mesquite Fire Department celebrates promotions and new firefighters The Mesquite Fire Department held a promotion/swearing-in ceremony on Aug. 5 at the Mesquite Arts Center to recognize the recent promotions of rank and new members to the department. The City of Mesquite’s Public Safety Dispatchers recently made a generous donation of peanut butter and jelly to Sharing Life Community Outreach as a part of the city’s Spread the Love campaign. New solid waste ordinance goes into effect Oct. 1 As a part of its new Clean City Initiative, the Mesquite City Council approved new requirements for its solid waste customers that go into effect Oct. 1, which include trash being secured in trash bags within an approved trash container, specific times on when the trash can be set out for collection and limits on bulky items.
