How to file as a candidate for City Council The City of Mesquite has launched a new webpage to assist those who want to consider filing their candidacy to serve on the City Council. The 2021 City election, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and Councilmembers for Places 1 – 6, will be held on Nov. 2. The first day to file is July 17 and the last day to file is Aug.16. Mesquite NAACP hosts Juneteenth celebration Celebrate Juneteenth with the whole family at Mesquite’s second annual Juneteeth Celebration. The Mesquite NAACP is hosting the celebration at Paschall Park, 1001 New Market Road, on June 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a number of vendors, including local small businesses, food, drinks, entertainment, music and games. Mesquite attracts more than 200 to successful job fair The June 9 Mesquite Job Fair attracted 213 job seekers from 17 different cities across the DFW metroplex, and was highlighted by many applicants receiving job offers by the end of the day. The event was presented by the Business Retention and Expansion Task Force, which consists of the City of Mesquite Economic Development Department, Mesquite Independent School District, Dallas College-Eastfield Campus, Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas and the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce. Texas Advancement Center opens in Mesquite Mesquite Mayor Bruce Archer helped the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce welcome Texas Advancement Center to Mesquite on June 5 with a ribbon cutting at their newest location at 2920 Motley Drive. Addressing Mesquite Day project applications due June 25 Do you or your neighbors need help with an exterior house or yard project? The 17th Addressing Mesquite Day is on Oct. 2. This annual event has volunteers organized by the City work on minor exterior home repairs, painting and landscape projects. The last day for homeowners to complete a request form is June 25. How to addresses loud music complaints and disturbances The City of Mesquite has announced new ways the public can help address concerns of loud volumes of music or noises in their neighborhoods. For general noise disturbances, like loud music, the public can report it to the Mesquite Police Department by using the nonemergency phone number 972-285-6336. Spread the Love this summer Spread the Love is an annual campaign held April - August that encourages the donation of peanut butter and jelly as well as financial contributions to help feed children in Mesquite during the summer who live in food insecure environments. These children receive free or reduced lunch during the school year but need assistance to nutritious lunch during the summer break. Learn more.

Mesquite Championship Rodeo rides into townThe Mesquite Championship Rodeo (MCR) is at the Mesquite Arena, 1818 Rodeo Drive for the summer. MCR will take place every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. until Aug. 28. Summer Camp with Mesquite Parks and RecreationLooking for a fun experience for your kids and safe child care this summer? The Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of different summer camps for children ages 6 to 12. Campers can participate in games, swim days, crafts and daily activities.
