City Council meets June 7


Mesquite City Council will meet on June 7 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B, followed by a staff Work Session at 6:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. The public attending the meeting will have the option of wearing a face covering but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on June 7 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on June 7 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. The City of Mesquite has announced that Downtown Mesquite has earned the distinction of being a Nationally Accredited Main Street Program for the second year in a row. Downtown Mesquite was selected for the honor by Main Street America, also known as the National Main Street Center. Learn more.

Mesquite Championship Rodeo returns June 5


The Mesquite Championship Rodeo (MCR) is riding back into town this weekend. Saturday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. marks the start of the summer rodeo series at the Mesquite Arena, 1818 Rodeo Drive, which will take place every Saturday until Aug. 28. For more than 60 years, MCR has entertained families with thrilling rodeo events such as saddle bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing, team roping and more. Purchase tickets.

Mesquite hosts June 9 job fair 


There will be a Mesquite Job Fair at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive, on Wednesday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Mesquite Business Retention and Expansion Task Force (BRE) will host a great opportunity for both job seekers of all ages and employers looking to hire. Mesquite hosts Memorial Day Service


On Monday, May 31, the City of Mesquite hosted a Memorial Day Service at the Mesquite Veterans Memorial. The brief program honored the men and women who died while serving in the United States military. The program began just before 3 p.m. to coincide with the National Moment of Remembrance. Learn more. Mesquite Farmers Market opens June 12


The new Downtown Mesquite Farmers Market will begin on June 12. The weekly marketplace of fresh produce and creative artisans will take place Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Nov. 27 at Front Street Station. For more details, visit www.downtownmesquitetx.com.

Addressing Mesquite Day project applications due June 25 


Do you or your neighbors need help with an exterior house or yard project? The 17th Addressing Mesquite Day is on Oct. 2. This annual event has volunteers organized by the City work on minor exterior home repairs, painting and landscape projects. The last day for homeowners to complete a request form is June 25. Jazz Breaks at the Mesquite Arts Center


In June, the Mesquite Arts Center will kick off their annual summer Jazz Breaks Series. This is a family-friendly FREE event. Bistro tables and chairs will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. On June 7 and 21, head to the Mesquite Arts Center Courtyard for a free concert at 7 p.m. Learn more.

The City of Mesquite has published an Annual Water Quality report as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The City of Mesquite strives to provide high quality drinking water that is safe and reliable to our customers and maintains a “superior” water system rating with the TCEQ.
