Mesquite names Municipal Center after former mayor George A. Venner, Sr.


At the April 19 City Council meeting, the City dedicated the Municipal Center, located at 1515 N. Galloway Avenue, as the George A. Venner, Sr. Municipal Center. The dedication was to pay tribute to former Mayor George Venner and his distinguished public service career. Watch the presentation.

Mesquite Police Department honors officers, civilians and citizens


The Mesquite Police Department presented their annual Meritorious Awards during the April 19 City Council meeting, which was highlighted by Dustin Chautin receiving the prestigious “Sergeant H. Kent Tyler Award” for Officer of the Year and Public Safety Dispatcher Christy Russell earning the prominent Civilian of the Year Award. Watch the award ceremony. Learn more.

City Council approves new Downtown Mesquite facade grant


More investment by property owners into their locations in Downtown Mesquite is on the way. The Mesquite City Council has approved a new application for the Facade Improvement Program. Carroll Place, 215 and 217 W. Main Street will have significant enhancements to the exterior of the building. Learn more.

Mesquite is awarded $400,000 state grant for Lawson Road improvements


The City of Mesquite announced it has been awarded a state grant of $400,000 for interim improvements to Lawson Road. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) grant will help fund 90% of the project that will add three more feet of road shoulder and a safety guardrail on both lanes of Lawson Road near East Cartwright Road and Milam Road. Construction will begin in 2022. Learn more.

Virtual KidFish Tournament will be held April 24 - May 2


The annual KidFish fishing tournament kicks off tomorrow, April 24. This year, KidFish will be held as a virtual event from April 24 - May 2. Participants are invited to submit photos of their fish catch from City Lake Park for an opportunity to compete for trophies and participation medals. 2021 Summer Youth Internship Program


The City of Mesquite is now accepting applications for the 2021 Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP), which will take place June 11 - July 25. Eligible applicants must live in Mesquite, be between the ages of 15 - 17, and meet Federal income requirements. To apply please complete and submit the 2021 Summer Youth Internship Application and required documents. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 30. Applications may be submitted via email to RButler@cityofmesquite.com and MSchlegel@cityofmesquite.com, or in-person at the Housing & Community Services building located at 1616 N. Galloway Avenue.

The Mesquite Main Library is offering free jobseeker support sessions. Schedule a 30-minute session in person or by phone. Staff will offer assistance and resources to help with job applications resumes and practice interviews.
