City Council meets Jan. 4


Mesquite City Council will meet on Jan. 4 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B, followed by a Staff Work Session at 6:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. All persons present at the meeting location must observe social distancing by remaining a minimum of six (6) feet from other meeting participants and must wear a covering over their nose and mouth. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Jan. 4 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Jan. 4 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. City offices and facilities will be closed for the New Year holiday on Friday, Jan. 1, except for the Mesquite Metro Airport. Trash and recycling will not be collected. Collection will resume on resident’s next scheduled collection day. View a complete list of closures.

Utility Billing Office offering longer-term payment plans


On Jan. 5, 2021, the City of Mesquite will resume water disconnections of delinquent accounts. Longer-term payment plans are available to help residents who are struggling to pay their City water bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City can offer a payment plan that fits their unique situation. Call the Utility Billing Office at 972-216-6208 (press 0) to discuss your options.

New animal and parking ordinances take effect on Jan. 1


The new year brings new changes to both the City of Mesquite's parking ordinance and the animal ordinance. Amendments to the parking ordinance address commercial and oversized vehicles, parking on public streets and private property as well as recreational vehicles (RV) and parking on unimproved surfaces in residential areas. The revisions to the animal ordinance address outdated language and enhance definitions of a dangerous and aggressive animal as well as the new requirements for animal care and treatment. Mesquite approves two new Downtown Mesquite facade grants


The Mesquite City Council has approved two new applications for the façade improvement program. Hair Affair at 136 E. Main Street and Barbers Ink, 111 W. Main Street, will have significant enhancements to the exteriors of the buildings. The Downtown Mesquite Façade Improvement Program was created to encourage improvement of properties within the downtown area. Learn more.

Mesquite Arts Center announces January events


The Mesquite Arts Center is offering two free artist exhibitions in the month of January, Freedom from Grieving by Mesquite artist, Paige Lehmann and a Collage/Ink Series by Lanny Quarles. Both exhibits are available from January 11 through March 27. Freedom From Grieving will be on display in the Chamber Gallery and the Collage/Ink Series will be on display in the Main Gallery. Start the New Year by going green with your live Christmas tree. Live Christmas trees are biodegradable, which means they are easily reused or recycled for mulch and other purposes.
