Mesquite recognizes four employees as Real. Texas. Service. Champions


On Dec. 21, Mesquite honored four City employees with Real. Texas. Service. Employee Champion awards during the City Council meeting. The program celebrates employees who provide exemplary customer service and achieve accomplishments that merit special recognition. The following employees were recognized: Derek Dupree - Mesquite Metro Airport, Lilliana Cindo - Parks and Recreation Department, Nicole Phillips - Mesquite Police Department and Tana Colwell - City Attorney's Office. City holiday closures on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25


City offices and facilities will be closed for the Christmas holiday on Thursday, Dec. 24, except for the Mesquite Metro Airport and Recreation Centers, and on Friday, Dec. 25 all City offices and facilities will be closed except for the Mesquite Metro Airport. Trash and recycling will not be collected. Collection will resume on resident’s next scheduled collection day. View a complete list of closures.

Celebrate Safely, no Fireworks DWI or Gunfire on New Years

Celebrate Safely in Mesquite


As you plan for the New Year's Eve holiday, please celebrate safely. Remember the possession or use of fireworks, firing a gun into the air and driving while intoxicated are illegal in Mesquite. All these offenses carry fines, fireworks will be confiscated and illegal gunfire and DWI could result in jail time. To report illegal fireworks call 972-204-4888 and provide an address, email fireworks@mesquitepolice.org or use the web reporting tool at www.cityofmesquite.com/CelebrateSafely. To report gunfire or a possible DWI, call 911.

Amended parking ordinance takes effect on Jan. 1


The City of Mesquite has started educating the community on amendments to the parking ordinance in residential areas, with plans to begin enforcement after Jan. 1, 2021. The amendments address commercial and oversized vehicles, parking on public streets and private property as well as recreational vehicles (RV) and parking on unimproved services in residential areas. Revised animal ordinance takes effect Jan. 1


The Mesquite City Council has adopted revisions to the Chapter 4 - Animal Ordinance. The revisions address outdated language and enhance definitions of a dangerous and aggressive animal as well as the new requirements for animal care and treatment. The new ordinance goes into effect January 1, 2021. Learn more.

For the second year in a row, the City of Mesquite’s Planning and Development Services Department was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Planning Excellence by the American Planning Association Texas Chapter. The Richard R. Lillie, FAICP Program for Planning Excellence recognizes the professional planning standards demonstrated by the City’s planning staff. Learn more.

Mesquite seeks public input on Solid Waste Survey


The City of Mesquite is asking for residential and commercial solid waste customers to provide their input on the City’s solid waste services. The goal is to use this feedback in developing a 20-year solid waste master plan for review by the City Council. This online survey will be available until Dec. 31. Learn more.

Start the New Year by going green with your live Christmas tree. Live Christmas trees are biodegradable, which means they are easily reused or recycled for mulch and other purposes. December Sales Tax Revenue

Sales Tax


The City of Mesquite’s December sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of October, is 1.9% below the amount reported for the same period last year. Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the City’s General Fund, which supports services such as police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries and public works. Learn more.
