City Council meets Oct. 5


Mesquite City Council will meet on Oct.5, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B, followed by the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. All persons present at the meeting location must observe social distancing by remaining a minimum of six (6) feet from other meeting participants and must wear a covering over their nose and mouth. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Oct. 5 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Oct. 5 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. Mesquite announces National Night Out 


National Night Out is an annual campaign held in cities across the country that promotes police and neighborhood partnerships, while bringing back a true sense of community. For the 2020 National Night Out activities, Mesquite is promoting programs that can be conducted year-round by residents to help foster safer neighborhoods. The new “9 P.M. Routine” joins the existing “20-4-7 Program” and “Project Porch Light” as daily activities neighborhoods across Mesquite can do together. Learn more.

Mesquite Public Library North Branch

Mesquite North Branch Library reopens Oct. 5


The Mesquite North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Drive, will reopen on Monday, Oct. 5 with reduced branch hours. To protect the health and safety of the public and City employees, all visitors must wear a face mask, all library items should be returned to the outdoor book drops only and returned library items will be quarantined for three days before being checked in and shelved. 10th Annual Mesquite Meander on Oct. 9 and 10


The Mesquite Meander, Historic Mesquite, Inc.’s annual living history tour through Mesquite Cemetery will be held on Oct. 9 and 10. Tours start every ten minutes and are limited to no more than ten people per tour. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 972-216-6468 or emailing historicmesquite@cityofmesquite.com.

National Hispanic Heritage Month in Mesquite


From Sept 15 to Oct. 15, the City of Mesquite is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. On Oct. 1 Mesquite Mayor Bruce Archer presented a special proclamation to the Hispanic Forum of Mesquite and LULAC. Learn more.

Mesquite Fire Chief Mark Kerby retires


On Sept. 30, the City of Mesquite celebrated Mesquite Fire Chief Mark Kerby and his career including serving as Fire Chief since 2003. Mesquite Mayor Bruce Archer declared Sept. 30 "Mark Kerby Day." Chief Kerby will begin a new role as the Special Projects Director. Learn more and watch a video of the presentation.

Mesquite Senior Meal program receives $500 donation


On Sept. 29 Mike Gibson of Griswold Home Care Mesquite donated $500 towards the senior meal program for the Parks and Recreation Department. During the year, the department will provide as many as 1,500 meals per month through its Congregate Program that serves the Adults 50+ participants. Griswold Home Care Mesquite and the Mesquite Elks have been sponsors of the Portable Pantry Program since 2013. Read more.

STAR Transit updates routes, services in Mesquite


The City of Mesquite has joined with STAR Transit in announcing updated services and routes. Effective Oct. 1, Mesquite’s STARNow app and Demand Response service will have extended hours and new Saturday service from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The new Monday through Friday hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Learn more. 

Bois d'Arc Creek Dam and Reservoir Site

Bois D’Arc Lake will serve 80 North Texas communities


Bois d’Arc Lake is the first new major reservoir in Texas in nearly 30 years. The 16,641-acre lake will be located northeast of the city of Bonham in Fannin County. The 26-square-mile Bois d'Arc Lake starts delivering drinking water to 80 North Texas communities, including Mesquite  in 2022. Visit BoisdArcLake.org for more information.

Meet your COVID-19 recovery caseworker


As a part of their ongoing Recovery Mesquite efforts, the
City of Mesquite announced Mesquite residents have
access to a Spanish bilingual caseworker to aid them in
submitting applications through Catholic Charities Dallas
(CCD) for COVID-19 economic assistance funds for
rental or mortgage payments, utility bills and other related expenses. Learn more.
