City Council meets June 1


Mesquite City Council will meet on June 1, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B, followed by the Work Session at 6:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person or participate by telephone conference. Those participating by telephone conference may do so by dialing one of the following toll-free dial-in numbers: 877-853-5257 or 888-475-4499. All persons present at the meeting location must observe social distancing by remaining a minimum of six (6) feet from other meeting participants and are strongly encouraged to wear a covering over their nose and mouth. Recovery Mesquite activity for May 30


The City of Mesquite’s Recovery Mesquite event is this Saturday, May 30, from 10 - 11 a.m. at Town East Mall, 2063 Town East Mall, to aid families and businesses recovering from the impacts of COVID-19. Recovery Mesquite will offer the public the opportunity to thank community service heroes from their vehicle in a reverse parade, donate to local social service agencies and support stores and restaurants in the retail area. At the May 18 City Council meeting, City Council appointed Councilmember Robert Miklos from District 3 as Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember Dan Aleman from District 6 as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem. Both will serve one- year terms.

Rodeo rides on despite shutdowns


The Mesquite Championship Rodeo is back and open for its 63rd consecutive year with its 13-week series, starting Saturday, June 6. Though the MCR is reopening, they are not ignoring the threat of COVID-19. The rodeo will be following Dallas County guidelines and PRCA guidelines. Do you or your neighbors need help with an exterior house or yard project? The 16th Addressing Mesquite Day is on October 3. This annual event has volunteers organized by the City work on minor exterior home repairs, painting and landscape projects. The last day for homeowners to complete a request form is June 26. I 635 LBJ East Projcect

IH 635 LBJ East Traffic Alert


The Texas Department of Transportation has started construction on IH 635 LBJ East. The left lane of the eastbound IH 30 frontage road at Gus Thomasson Road will be closed beginning Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Stay up to date on the closures and traffic pattern changes during this ongoing project, by visiting 635east.com.

The City of Mesquite is selling bricks for the new Mesquite Veterans Memorial. All bricks will be included in the construction and be placed on the border of the walkway that leads visitors to the memorial. Each brick is four inches by eight inches in size and costs $50.
