  1. Opal Lawrence Cabin Open House

    May 15, 2021, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ Opal Lawrence Historical Park

The restoration of Webb-Brownoer Franklin Cabin at Opal Lawrence Historical Park has been completed. Originally located in the community of Long Creek, present day Sunnyvale, the circa 1845 cabin is considered one of the oldest buildings in eastern Dallas County. It was most likely the first home of Captain A. W. Webb and his wife, Lucinda Crownover. In 1997, Jeanette Franklin and her family donated the cabin to the City of Mesquite for reconstruction. With funding provided by the Mesquite Rotary Club, the timbers of the cabin were reassembled on the Lawrence farmstead in early 2010. In 2018, Historic Mesquite commissioned Ron Siebler to document the existing condition of the cabin and to restore the structure to a more period authentic representation. Work was started in late 2019 and completed in January 2021.
