Mesquite is transitioning the system for electing its six Council members to a single-member-district system. The City Council seeks public input during the process to create the new Council districts. Learn more and ask questions during a public meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Florence Recreation Center, 2501 Whitson Way. For more information, visit cityofmesquite.comRedistricting.
In May, Mesquite voters approved proposed changes to the City Charter, including revisions to the City Council structure. Six geographical districts will be created, with one Council member representing each district. Only voters residing within a specific district will vote for the Council member representing that district. Council members representing a district will be required to reside in that district. The Mayor will represent the entire city and be elected by all voters in the city. The new district boundaries will be reviewed every 10 years and revised as needed based on U.S. census data.

There is a mix of songs, rhymes, finger plays, and books. However, there is a greater emphasis on books, on longer stories with more challenging content, and on independent participation by the kids. Children will be introduced to group participation, and caregivers will learn some songs and rhymes to share with their children at home. This program is an opportunity for children to mature socially and developmentally in preparation for school. Sounds, letter recognition, and new words that will help them grow into pre-readers all while having fun. Program length: approx. 30 minutes.
