The AT5K is all about having a great time and making great memories with friends in the community. There are no winners, no timing, no awards, just a lot of color and fun. Each participant will be a blank canvas at the starting line, and will be transformed into a colorful collage. The race benefits the Mesquite ISD Education Foundation. On Saturday, October 28, the Mesquite Police Department will take part in a nation-wide collaborative effort to allow residents to dispose of potentially dangerous controlled substances from their medicine cabinets. This program is part of a Drug Enforcement Administration initiative to bring awareness to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Mesquite Police Department, 777 N. Galloway Avenue.
Residents may bring their expired, unwanted or unused medications and deposit them for destruction. This is a voluntary program and allows people to anonymously dispose of these medications safely.
Controlled, non-controlled and over the counter medication will be collected. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in the original container.
Intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes will NOT be accepted due to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.
