Mesquite City Council to meet on August 21

On Monday, August 21, the Mesquite City Council Pre-Meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B at Mesquite City Hall, located at 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The City Council Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber. Attendees are encouraged to bring a jar of peanut butter or jelly to support the Spread the Love campaign, which helps feed children in food insecure families. Notice of public hearings on proposed tax rate

The City of Mesquite will hold two public hearings on the proposed tax rate. The proposed tax rate of $0.687 per $100 of taxable value remains the same as last year. Property tax bills may increase or decrease depending on the change in the taxable value of the property. Public hearings will be held on August 21 at 7 p.m. and September 5 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue.

School flasher testing scheduled for August 24 and 25

The City of Mesquite Public Works Department will be testing the school flasher system during the scheduled school zone times for all schools on August 24 and August 25 in preparation for the first day of school on Monday, August 28.

Municipal Court, Tax and Utility Billing Office closing at 1 p.m.
on August 25


On Friday, August 25, the Mesquite Municipal Court, Tax Office and Utility Billing Office will close at 1 p.m. for staff development and reopen at 8 a.m. on August 28. Online and phone payment systems will remain available. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/Payments for options.

Mesquite Animal Services hosts free cat spay and neuter clinic

Mesquite Animal Services will offer a free spay and neuter clinic for cats on Saturday, August 26. This free service is sponsored by Petsmart Charities and is only available to Mesquite residents with an appointment. To make an appointment, call 972-472-3500. Town Hall Tuesday

Town Hall Tuesday to be held on August 29


The City of Mesquite will host its next Town Hall Tuesday on August 29 from 7 - 8 p.m. at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The program will provide an opportunity to learn how to connect with the City, report service issues and become involved through volunteer activities. Monthly sales tax revenues

The State Comptroller’s Office reported a 3.2 percent decrease in the City’s sales tax collections for the month of August.  August’s report is based on sales reported by local businesses during the month of June. Even with the decrease, collections are trending $188,000 above budget. However, overall sales tax collections are relatively flat with a minimal increase of 0.8 percent for the fiscal year.  For more detailed information on how the City uses its sales tax revenue, visit the City’s website at www.cityofmesquite.com/Transparency.

Mesquite Public Health Clinic offers extended back to school hours

The Mesquite Public Health Clinic, located at 1616 N. Galloway Avenue, is offering extended back to school hours to allow more time for parents to take care of their child’s required school immunizations. The clinic will be open August 21 - September 1, Monday - Friday, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Vaccines are $14 per child and payment can be made by cash, check or credit card. Children must have a complete shot record with them. Clients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 972-329-8326.
