Mesquite City Council to meet June 5

Register now for Mesquite’s Summer Sizzle mud volleyball and washer tournaments


Registration ends June 4 for Mesquite’s Summer Sizzle mud volleyball tournament. Gather your friends for this once-a-year opportunity for outrageous fun. The six-on-six mud volleyball tournament will consist of co-ed teams with members 12 years old and up. There is a maximum of eight players per roster and two females must be on the court at all times. The registration fee is $50 per team and no additional teams will be entered after June 4.

An individual and team washer tournament will also be offered this year. Register by June 4 to take advantage of early bird registration specials. Early bird individual registration is $20, while early bird team registration is $40. After June 4, individual registration will increase to $35 and team registration will increase to $55. The tournament is for individuals 12 years old and up. Both tournaments will be held at Mesquite's Summer Sizzle festival held on Saturday, June 10, in Paschall Park, 1001 New Market Road. Town East

Town East Boulevard (Military Parkway to Skyline Drive) reconstruction project begins

The reconstruction of Town East Boulevard (Military Parkway to Skyline Drive) has begun. This project will reconstruct the roadway into a four-lane divided roadway with two lanes in each direction. Curb and gutter improvements will also be included. On Monday, June 5, all traffic will be rerouted to the southbound lanes while utilities are installed. GT and Oates

Gus Thomasson Road (Karla Drive
to Moon Drive/Whitson Way) traffic change


On Monday, June 5, traffic on Oates Drive at the intersection of Gus Thomasson Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction while utilities are installed for the Gus Thomasson reconstruction project. Mesquite Public Library Summer Reading Club begins June 5

The Mesquite Public Library’s Summer Reading Club will run from June 5 - July 29. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World!” Children, teens and adults can visit the Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive, or the North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Drive, to check out books, attend free programs, turn in reading logs and win fun prizes. Scrumbscious Burgers & Pieshakes to offer free Summer Sizzle mini-pieshakes on June 9

KRLD 1080 Radio will be featuring Mesquite as part of its Your Hometown series on Friday, June 9.  The station will broadcast live from Scrumbscious Burgers and Pieshakes, 1151 E. Davis Street, from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. with stories and interviews about Your Hometown Mesquite.  In support of the KRLD series and Mesquite’s Summer Sizzle festival, the restaurant will offer free Summer Sizzle mini-pieshakes in souvenir cups while supplies last.

Registration open for Summer Camp at Mesquite Golf Club

Registration is open for The First Tee of Greater Dallas Summer Camp at Mesquite Golf Club, 825 Interstate 30, for kids ages 7 - 17. The camp will be held July 24 - July 28 from 8:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. The registration fee is $120 and includes snacks, lunch and time on the golf course practice tees. Ashley Furniture Industries holds nationwide flag raising ceremonies on Memorial Day

On May 24, Ashley Furniture Industries recognized Memorial Day with a flag raising ceremony at each of their manufacturing facilities in the United States, including their Mesquite location. A moment of silence was held following each ceremony to honor the brave men and women who have died while serving in the United States military. Mayor Stan Pickett and other community leaders attended the flag raising in Mesquite. Ashley plans to build a new 850,000 square-foot south central distribution and fulfillment center in Mesquite.
