Frontage Road project

IH 635 and US 80 new frontage road project begins


This week, preparation began for the construction of a new northbound frontage road along Interstate Highway 635 (IH 635) from Gross Road to US Highway 80 (US 80). The contractor has set barricades and started setting portable concrete traffic barriers. The project will also include the modification of the US 80 North Galloway Avenue exit ramp. Construction is estimated to take 15 months and be completed Spring 2018.

Mesquite Public Health Clinic
offers flu shots


The Mesquite Public Health Clinic is offering flu shots to the public for $25 each while supplies last. The clinic, located at 1616 N. Galloway Avenue, is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 - 11 a.m. and 1 - 4 p.m. For more information, please call the clinic at 972-329-8326.



Film production

Production company films commercial at KidsQuest Park

This week, the production company Auxilliary Output filmed a commercial for a new product at KidsQuest Park. The product name has yet to be publically released and cannot be mentioned at this time. Mesquite is certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community by the State of Texas and this marks the fifth film production in Mesquite since July. Other projects include filming an A&E documentary, a student film, a video on demand feature film called “Revenge in Kind,” and a HBO-affiliate documentary.

Davis and Rose

Sounds in the Square will be
held on November 12


Davis and Rose, a two-piece acoustic group, will perform on Saturday, November 12, during Sounds in the Square held in Heritage Square, 120 W. Main Street, from 4 - 5:30 p.m. Sweets by Selena and La Rosita food trucks will also be onsite offering delectable desserts and made-to-order Mexican food. The next Town Hall Tuesday will be held on November 15 from 7 - 8 p.m. at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. City Council goals for 2017 will be discussed. A question and answer session will also be offered and attendees will have the opportunity to interact with City Councilmembers and staff. Halloween Happenings

Mesquite Main Library hosts
over 120 participants at
Halloween Happenings


The Mesquite Main Library hosted over 120 participants on October 25 at Halloween Happenings, a free event for children ages 10 and under. Activities included crafts, storytelling, a Halloween parade and more. The use of a photo booth was also graciously provided by the Friends of the Mesquite Public Library.

Fall Back: Daylight saving time
ends Sunday morning


Daylight saving time (DST) ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 6. Remember to set your clocks back one hour and enjoy an extra hour of sleep. The change is automatic for most smartphones, computers, tablets and other digital devices. The end of DST is also a good time to change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and test them to make sure they are in working order.
