Monthly sales tax report

The State Comptroller’s Office reported a 6.4 percent increase in the City’s sales tax collections for the month of July, which marks the seventh consecutive month of positive sales tax collections for the City. In terms of the City budget, the City collected $142,000 more this month than the same period last year. Overall, sales tax collections are up 3.5 percent for the year and is an indicator of a stable and healthy local economy. Town Hall Tuesday to be held July 12

The next Town Hall Tuesday will be held on July 12 from 7 - 8 p.m. at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The topic will be the budget process. Mesquite recognized with a
Playful City USA designation

During the July 5 City Council meeting, the City announced it earned the prestigious Playful City USA designation for the fourth consecutive year. The national recognition program honors cities and towns across the country for making their communities more playable. During the meeting, the Playful City USA video was debuted and Parks and Recreation Director Elizabeth Harrell presented Mayor Stan Pickett with the designation certificate. Parks and Recreation Month

Gus Thomasson Road Project
(U.S. Highway 80-Town East) videos posted online

As a follow-up to the public meeting held on June 30 to discuss preliminary plans and design options for the reconstruction of Gus Thomasson Road (from U.S. Highway 80-Town East), videos of the presentation and public meeting have been posted at www.cityofmesquite.com/GTRoad. The webpage also features additional information on the project, graphics of the design options and a public comment form.

Interactive mosquito spray map

An interactive mosquito spray map showing the time, date and areas that have been sprayed is available at www.cityofmesquite.com/SprayMap. Applications are performed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Areas are sprayed as soon as possible after a mosquito trap tests positive for West Nile Virus. The product used has been extensively tested by the Environmental Protection Agency for safety and application guidelines are strictly followed. Reid Choate hired as new
Manager of Equipment Services

The City welcomes Reid Choate as the new Manager of Equipment Services. Reid is a graduate of Mesquite High School and is the son of a longtime City employee. Reid previously served as the Fleet Manager for the City of Plano.

Real.Texas.Roads. Project update

The pavement milling portion of the surface reconstruction phase began this week on sections of Caribbean, Hogan, Kiamesha and Nabholtz streets. The contractor also continued to pour concrete on Andrew, Barbara, Midway, and Northridge streets this past week. For additional information, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/realtexasroads

Budget presentation videos are available online


The proposed 2016-17 budget presentations made to the City Council on July 5 by City staff of the Finance Department, Information Technology Department and the Mesquite Metro Airport are now available at www.cityofmesquite.com/BudgetPresentations.
 
Future proposed budget presentations by City staff to the Mesquite City Council include:

  • July 18: Neighborhood Services, Library Services, Parks and Recreation,Planning and Development Services and Human Resources;

  • August 1: Housing and Community Services, Public Works, Fire Department and the Police Department.

The presentations are open to the public and are scheduled for 4 p.m. at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue.


City pays tribute to Real.Texas.Heroes.

The newest image selected for the billboard campaign will promote public safety and honor local heroes. The image was produced through a collaborative effort between the City’s Communications and Marketing staff, the Fire Department and the Police Department. The billboard will be featured on I-635, east of Garland Road and on I-30, east of Grand Avenue. The billboard campaign is managed in partnership with the Mesquite Independent School District.
