Mesquite Police Department to get two academic reviews of its operations


The Mesquite Police Department (MPD) will participate in a collaborative study with the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of California, Irvine. The department will work with researchers from both distinguished universities to review the efficiency of how the department deploys personnel and equipment. Mesquite Animal Shelter hosts successful Clear the Shelter event


On Aug. 17, the Mesquite Animal Shelter hosted the 2019 Clear the Shelter event and 89 animals were adopted by new families. This included 52 dogs, 36 cats and 1 guinea pig. The annual event waives all adoption fees for one day. This month is a special time for the shelter as it celebrates 24 consecutive months of a more than 90 percent save rate for all its animals. Last year, the shelter took in more than 6,000 animals regardless of situation or condition. Watch highlights of the event.

Finance Department presents City’s financial report


Finance Director Debbie Mol presented the City’s financial report during the City Council and Staff Work Session on Aug. 19. The financial statement covers the period of Oct. 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019. Watch the presentation.

Small Business Workshop offered
on Aug. 27


A Small Business Workshop on marketing and sales strategies will be held on Aug. 27 at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. A light dinner and all materials are included for $10 per person. Mesquite to host 9/11 Memorial at Freedom Park 


The City of Mesquite invites the public to attend a 9/11 Memorial at Mesquite Freedom Park, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. The event will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The program will include various speakers, presentations by Mesquite Fire and Police Departments, and musical performances by the Mesquite High School Show Choir. Courtyard Concert Series featuring Plunk Murray to be held on Sept. 12


On Sept. 12, a free Courtyard Concert Series featuring the contemporary Irish folk music of Plunk Murray will be offered. This family-friendly event will be held from 7 - 9 p.m. in the Mesquite Arts Center's Courtyard. Visit www.mesquiteartscenter.org for more information.

Register to vote at certain City facilities through Oct. 4


The Mesquite City Council passed an ordinance to establish designated voter registration sites at certain City facilities. Through Oct. 4, citizens can register to vote at the following locations: the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 1515 N. Galloway Ave.; the Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive; and the North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Drive. Watch a brief video on the Voter Registration Program in English or in Spanish for hours of service and more information.
