Mesquite City Council passes ordinance to establish designated voter registration sites at certain
City facilities

On July 1, the Mesquite City Council passed an ordinance creating voter registration sites at certain City facilities to encourage voter registration by improving convenience. These locations include the Parks and Recreation Administration Office and both Mesquite public libraries. Beginning Monday, July 15, these locations will be staffed by City personnel trained and certified as volunteer deputy registrars by Dallas County. Library Services presents strategies and budget priorities

Director of Library Services Virginia Mundt presented library performance numbers, strategies, and budget priorities for Fiscal Year 2020 during the July 1 City Council Pre-Meeting. The City Council Budget Workshop for Fiscal Year 2020 will be held on July 19 and 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. The City’s budget will be featured at the Town Hall Tuesday on July 16 at 7 p.m. in the Training Rooms at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Attendees can learn about the City budget and operations, and have the opportunity to offer input as the City Council prepares for their annual budget retreat to plan the Fiscal Year 2020 budget. Small business workshop series being well attended

A series of workshops for the small business owner or dreamer called “Entrepreneurship to the Fourth Power” began June 18 with a session on business planning. The sessions are designed to be taken as a series or individually, depending on your area of interest. The three remaining workshops will be held on June 23, Aug. 17, and Oct. 15. Military Order of the Purple Heart donates $1,000 to Mesquite Veterans Memorial project

The Dallas Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart presented $1,000 to the City Council on July 1 in support of the Mesquite Veterans Memorial project. The Veterans Memorial is a community-based campaign to raise awareness and funding for the design and construction of a new memorial to honor all military veterans and their families. STAR Transit to hold July 22 public meeting to receive citizen input on Mesquite transportation

On July 22, STAR Transit will hold a public meeting to obtain citizen input regarding transportation in Mesquite, including changes to the Mesquite COMPASS route and the addition of Mobility on Demand. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. Transportation to the meeting is available within the Mesquite city limits. Parks and Recreation hosts free Luau Pool Party on July 12

A free Luau Pool Party will be held at City Lake Aquatic Center, 200 Parkview Street, on July 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Entry is limited to the first 500 people to arrive.
