Mesquite City Council to meet on April 16
On Monday, April 16, the Mesquite City Council Pre-Meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. The City Council Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber. Councilmembers and City staff will not be able to answer questions during the broadcast. City staff will address questions after the meeting. Mesquite to hold public meeting on proposed charter amendments
On Thursday, April 19, the City of Mesquite will hold its second public meeting to answer questions about the charter amendments proposed in the May 5 Annual City Election and Special Charter Amendment Election. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Florence Recreation Center Community Room, 2501 Whitson Way. Early voting for the elections begins April 23 and ends May 1. Mesquite's Ashley Furniture Regional Distribution and Fulfillment Center selected as DFW's Top 4 Industrial Deals of 2017
The Dallas Business Journal selected the City of Mesquite’s economic development project to bring Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc. and their southwest regional distribution and fulfillment center to Mesquite as one of the top four Industrial Deals of 2017. The project is 877,000 square feet and will be located on 358 acres near the Mesquite Metro Airport on Scyene Road. The project broke ground in October 2017 and will bring approximately 350 new jobs to Mesquite. The first phase of the project is valued at $65 million dollars. The new Mesquite location will become Ashley Furniture Industries’ fifteenth global distribution center and the tenth in the United States.

Drug Take Back Event to be held on April 28
On Saturday, April 28, the Mesquite Police Department will participate in a nationwide collaborative effort to allow residents to dispose of unused medication. The program is part of a Drug Enforcement Administration initiative to bring awareness to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. Residents may bring their expired, unwanted or unused medications to the lobby of the Mesquite Police Department, 777 N. Galloway Ave., from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., to drop them off for destruction. Register to attend Mayor's Prayer Breakfast on May 3
The 15th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held from 7 - 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, at Family Cathedral, 790 Windbell Circle. The breakfast and service provide an opportunity for community leaders and residents to come together in fellowship and prayer for our city. At noon, a gathering will also be held at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. This brief service will offer another opportunity to pray for our community. Broadcasts of public hearings on proposed changes in public transportation available online
The City of Mesquite held three public hearings to discuss proposed changes in public transportation for the City of Mesquite Passenger Shuttle (COMPASS) service. The intent of the proposed schedule adjustment is to better match ridership patterns tracked over the past several years. Each public hearing included a brief presentation by City staff followed by a public question-and-comment session. Rockin' Rhapsody concert series continues throughout April
The Rockin’ Rhapsody concert series will continue at 7 p.m. every Friday night in April at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. Each outdoor concert will take place on the Arts Center lawn behind Freedom Park. AC/DC tribute band Back in Black will perform on April 20, and premier blues band Texas Flood will perform on April 27. Job Resources and Resume Computer Class on April 25
The Mesquite Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive, will hold a Job Resources and Resume computer class from 9 - 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25. The class will explore online resources for creating and updating a resume, performing job searches and submitting applications. Participants must have basic mouse skills and experience using Microsoft Word. Registration is not required and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Monthly sales tax report
The State Comptroller’s Office reported a 1.5 percent increase in the City’s sales tax collections for the month of April compared to the same period last year. April’s report is based on sales reported by local businesses during the month of February. Year-to-date collections remain flat with an overall increase of almost one percent.
