Snuffer’s Restaurant holds grand opening and donates to Mesquite food pantries

This week, Snuffer’s Restaurant opened the doors to their newest location in Mesquite, located at 3726 Towne Crossing Blvd. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held, featuring the cutting of a 6-pound hamburger. In addition, the restaurant held a fundraising campaign for the City’s Spread the Love program, which helps feed children in food insecure families during the summer. All proceeds benefit Sharing Life Community Outreach and Mesquite Social Services. More than $1,200 was raised and presented to the local food pantries. Watch a brief recap of the grand opening.

Mesquite to host Neighborhood Summit on February 17

Mayor Stan Pickett and Manager of Neighborhood Vitality Yolanda Wilson recently discussed Mesquite’s inaugural Neighborhood Summit on KEOM Community Focus. The free half-day event will be held on February 17 at the Mesquite Independent School District Professional Development Center, 2600 Motley Drive. It will provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about our community and strengthen Mesquite neighborhoods. Fourth Quarter Development Activity Report available online

The Development Activity Report for the fourth quarter of 2017 is now available online at www.cityofmesquite.com/DevelopmentHighlights. The report summarizes development activity from October through December 2017 and includes: projects in discussion and review, building permits issued, certificates of occupancy issued, business retention and economic updates.

City employees recognized for
years of service

This week, the Mesquite City Council and City Manager Cliff Keheley thanked 157 city employees for a combined total of 2,195 years of public service to the Mesquite community. A special thank you to the West Mesquite High School Color Guard for the presentation of the Colors at the ceremony.

The Beach Boys to headline
12th Annual Lone Star Gala

The Mesquite ISD Education Foundation is pleased to announce Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, The Beach Boys, as the headline entertainment for the 12th Annual Lone Star Legacy Gala to be held on February 24, at Mesquite Arena, located at 1818 Rodeo Drive. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund innovative educational programs to benefit teachers and students in the Mesquite Independent School District. Mesquite Police Department graduates seven new recruits

The Mesquite Police Department (MPD) graduated seven recruits from its Basic Police Officer Course (BPOC) on January 18. The seven new recruits completed 25 weeks of the BPOC program. They will now begin a 17-week field training program. Upon successful completion of the field training program the new police officers will be assigned to patrol duties. MPD has graduated 52 recruits from its BPOC since the training academy began in 2013. Watch a video recap of the graduation and learn more about the new recruits.
