Mayor Stan Pickett addresses Mesquite water and sewer rates

Many residents have recently voiced their concerns over increased charges on their water bill. On October 1, rates will once again increase. These increases are directly the result of increasing costs passed onto the Citizens of Mesquite by our wholesale water supplier, North Texas Municipal Water District. On behalf of the entire City Council, I want to tell our citizens and businesses that we hear you and we empathize with you on this issue of increasing water rates. Mesquite City Council to meet on October 2; Broadcast on Facebook Live

On Monday, October 2, the Mesquite City Council Pre-Meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The City Council Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber. The meeting will also be broadcast for the first time via Facebook Live. Councilmembers and City staff will not be able to answer questions during the broadcast. City staff will address questions after the meeting. Mesquite to host National Night Out events on October 3

The City of Mesquite will host a variety of activities in neighborhoods on October 3 in recognition of National Night Out. The National Night Out campaign is designed to bring neighborhoods together and strengthen the citizen-police relationship in the community.

Mesquite Charter Review Committee to host public meeting on October 4

The Mesquite Charter Review Committee will host a public meeting to gather input on a review of the City Charter. The meeting will be held Wednesday, October 4, at 7 p.m. at Kimbrough Middle School, 3900 N. Galloway Avenue. The public is encouraged to attend. The Mesquite City Council created the advisory committee to review, receive public input and provide a report to the City Council on possible changes to the City of Mesquite Charter. Mesquite launches “20-4-7” neighborhood program

The Mesquite Police Department has launched a new initiative called the 20-4-7 program to extend the benefits of National Night Out, which will be held on October 3 this year. The 20-4-7 program encourages residents to spend 20 minutes a day outside in their neighborhoods, four out of seven days a week. This brief amount of time spent outdoors can help strengthen neighborhoods and deter area crime. For more information, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/2047.

Mesquite receives donation of 153 sports balls from local realtors

The Dallas Fort Worth Chapter of the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) recently donated 153 new sports balls valued at $1,530 to the City of Mesquite for the youth enrolled in the After School Adventures program. This donation was presented to Parks and Recreation Director Elizabeth Harrell. The City of Mesquite and Mesquite Independent School District promoted the Mesquite community as a part of their residential marketing program partnership at AREAA’s Bowling for a Cause event on September 19.
