Mesquite announces Jeff Jones as new Deputy City Manager

This week, the City of Mesquite announced the promotion of Jeff Jones to Deputy City Manager. Jones has served as Assistant City Manager since joining the City in April 2016. Jones replaces former Deputy City Manager Jerry Dittman who retired on August 4. Jones will continue to manage the departments of Police, Fire, Human Resources in addition to the Mesquite Metro Airport and the Mesquite Arts Center. He will also manage the departments of Parks and Recreation, Planning and Development, and Public Works. Jones previously worked for the City of Hurst as Assistant City Manager and has worked in public service for 25 years.

Doggie Splash Day to be held on August 12

Mesquite Parks and Recreation will host Doggie Splash Day on Saturday, August 12, from 9 a.m. - noon at Vanston Pool, located at 2913 Oates Drive. This event offers the opportunity for dogs and their owners to cool off, compete for prizes and play at the pool. The fee is $5 for one owner and one pet, $2 for each additional pet, and $1 for spectators. Patrons who bring a jar of peanut butter or jelly to donate to the Spread the Love Campaign will receive $2 off admission. Public input sought on truck stops and truck-related uses

The City of Mesquite is seeking public input on truck stops and other businesses that include the parking of heavy load vehicles as a principal or accessory use. A public workshop will be held at 7 p.m. on August 14 to discuss development regulations, including ways to promote a positive community image while supporting truck-based businesses. The meeting will be held in Training Rooms A and B at Mesquite City Hall, located at 757 N. Galloway Avenue. Mesquite Smoothie King offers discount on smoothies in support of Spread the Love campaign

The new Smoothie King in Mesquite, located at 1300 N. Town East Boulevard, has announced its support of the Spread the Love peanut butter and jelly drive to help feed children from food insecure families. From August 12 - 19, bring in a jar of peanut butter or jelly to donate to the campaign and receive a $2 discount off the purchase of one medium or large drink. Marketplace in Mesquite to be held on August 12

The next Marketplace in Mesquite will be held on Saturday, August 12, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Mesquite's historic downtown square, located at 150 W. Main Street. The farmers market offers locally grown, sourced, and handmade goods, such as produce, baked goods, crafts, decor, and more. The market is held every second and fourth Saturday, April - October.

Back to School Bash to be held on August 18

Mesquite Parks and Recreation will host its annual Back to School Bash on Friday, August 18. Enjoy the free movie “Moana” poolside at City Lake Aquatic Center, located at 200 Parkview Street. Mesquite Animal Services to participate in “Clear the Shelters”
day on August 19

On Saturday, August 19, Mesquite Animal Services will participate in “Clear the Shelters” day from 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The Mesquite Animal Shelter is located at 1650 Gross Road. Clear the Shelters is a nationwide pet adoption drive held in an effort to find all shelter animals forever homes. All adoptions will be free on August 19 and every adoption will include a gift bag valued at $200 provided by VIP Pet Care. Mesquite Animal Services to offer free cat spay and neuter clinic

Mesquite Animal Services will offer a free spay and neuter clinic for cats on Saturday, August 26. This free service is sponsored by Petsmart Charities and is only available to Mesquite residents with an appointment. To make an appointment, call 972-472-3500. Snuffer’s Restaurant breaks ground in Mesquite

On August 7, Snuffer’s Restaurant hosted a special groundbreaking ceremony for its newest restaurant to be located at 3726 Towne Crossing Boulevard in Mesquite. The 6,000-square-foot restaurant is expected to open in December and will be the thirteenth Snuffer’s in North Texas.
