City Council seeks public input on truck stops and truck-related uses

The Mesquite City Council is seeking public input on truck stops and other businesses that include the parking of heavy load vehicles as a principal or accessory use. Public workshops will be held at 7 p.m. on July 24 and August 14 to discuss development regulations, including ways to promote a positive community image while supporting truck-based businesses. The meetings will be held in Training Rooms A and B at Mesquite City Hall, located at 757 N. Galloway Avenue.

Town Hall Tuesday to be held July 25

The City of Mesquite will host its next Town Hall Tuesday on July 25 from 7 - 8 p.m. at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The City of Mesquite’s fiscal year begins October 1. Registration for After-School Adventures begins August 1

Registration for After-School Adventures, formerly known as RASP, begins on August 1. After-School Adventures operates in conjunction with the Mesquite Independent School District calendar to provide supervised after-school activities, arts and crafts, snacks and homework time. The program is available Monday - Friday from 3 - 6 p.m. at Achziger, Beasley, Florence, McKenzie, Rutherford, Shaw and Thompson Elementary Schools for children in kindergarten - sixth grade. **Drive Like Your Family Lives Here campaign featured in Texas Town & City magazine**

The City of Mesquite’s Drive Like Your Family Lives Here campaign is featured in the July issue of Texas Town & City magazine. The public education program was created to help improve traffic safety in the Mesquite community. The program targets motorist, cyclist and pedestrian behaviors through a variety of bilingual communications, including outdoor signage, social media, videos and other methods. Dallas filmmaker documents restoration of outbuildings at Opal Lawrence Historical Park

Historic Mesquite, Inc. is embarking on a major restoration project at Opal Lawrence Historical Park with preservation contractor, Ron Siebler. The wash house and the root cellar/smokehouse are both currently under restoration. Dallas filmmaker Mark Birnbaum is documenting Siebler’s work as he brings these old structures back to their former glory. Spread the Love special

Donate a jar of peanut butter or jelly to the Spread the Love campaign and receive one small bucket of driving range balls free at the Mesquite Golf Club, located at 825 Interstate 30. The Spread the Love campaign helps feed children in food insecure families during the summer when free or reduced school lunches are unavailable. The driving range is open 6:30 a.m. until sunset.
