Summer Sizzle festival parking and temporary road closures

Mesquite’s Summer Sizzle festival will be held on Saturday, June 10, from noon - 9:30 p.m. at Paschall Park, 1001 New Market Road. Event admission and parking is free. Parking will be available at Travis Williams Softball Complex, 1005 New Market Road. Additional parking will be available at Mesquite Memorial Stadium, 2411 Scyene Road, with free shuttle service beginning at 3 p.m. Some nearby residential streets will be open only to residents. New Market Road will also be closed from 8:30 - 9:45 p.m. for safety during the fireworks show. More details at www.cityofmesquite.com/SummerSizzle.

Addressing Mesquite Day job request forms due July 14

On Saturday, October 7, the Mesquite Ministerial Alliance and the City of Mesquite will host Addressing Mesquite Day. This event matches community volunteer groups with homeowners in need of extra assistance. Job requests are only accepted for owner-occupied homes and priority is given to seniors, residents with disabilities or veterans. Job Request Forms are available in both English and Spanish online at www.cityofmesquite.com/AMD. Residents encouraged to use the
4 D’s of mosquito defense

Prevention is the best defense against West Nile and other mosquito-borne viruses. Remember the four D’s when enjoying the outdoors this summer: 1) Dusk and dawn are the times of day when infected mosquitoes are the most active and when you should try to stay indoors; 2) Dress in long sleeves and pants when outside; 3) Use insect repellents with DEET as an active ingredient; 4) Drain outside standing water so it does not become a mosquito breeding site. Mesquite Animal Services seeks volunteers for new foster program

Mesquite Animal Services is seeking volunteers for its new foster program, which helps open space in the shelter and increase the number of animals adopted. The average foster home stay is about two months and Mesquite Animal Services covers all veterinary expenses. IH 635 to US 80 service road extension project

Watch the June 6 Mesquite Minute video to find out more about the new frontage road being constructed on the east side of IH 635. The Texas Department of Transportation project also includes the permanent closure of the exit ramp of Galloway Avenue for eastbound traffic.
