New fire engine placed into service with traditional “push-in” ceremony
On March 28, firefighters at Fire Station #5 placed a new fire engine into service with a traditional “push-in” ceremony. The housing ceremony is a proud tradition in the history of fire service in which firefighters push a new engine into the station for the first time. The tradition dates back to the days when firefighters used horse-drawn equipment, which could not be easily backed into buildings by horses. Per tradition, the oldest firefighter present, Fire Lieutenant Chris Kneggs, led the pull of the old fire engine out of the station and the youngest firefighter present, Firefighter Jimmy Rogers, led the push of the new engine into the station.
