City Council to meet April 15

The Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 15, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person.

Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com  or calling 972-329-8388 before 3 p.m. on April 15. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on April 15 to the City Secretary.

District picnic notices

District 5 picnic to be held on April 20

City Councilmember B.W. Smith will host the District 5 Picnic at 11 a.m. on April 20 at Rutherford Recreation Center, 900 Rutherford Dr.

Residents in District 5 are invited to meet their Councilmember and their neighbors while enjoying some food.

District picnics for other City Councilmembers are planned as follows:

  • District 1 at 12:30 p.m. on April 27 at Florence Ranch Homestead
  • District 4 at 12 p.m. on May 18 at Paschall Park
  • District 3 at 11 a.m. on May 25 at KidsQuest-DeBusk Park
  • District 2 at 11 a.m. on June 1 at Florence Recreation Center
  • District 6 at 11 a.m. on June 8 at Rorie-Galloway Day Camp

Utility Billing changes

In-person hours, cash payment changes in Utility Billing

Effective May 6, 2024, in-person hours for the Utility Billing office will change to 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Also, change for cash payments will be made in whole dollar amounts only. Additional change due less than $1 will be applied as a credit to your next bill. Cash customers can still pay with exact change.

Teen Turnout event April 2024

Teen Turnout scheduled for April 13

The City is hosting the next Teen Turnout event from 6-8 p.m. on April 13 at Evans Recreation Center, 1116 Hillcrest Dr.

This free gathering is part of a series of events designed for youth ages 12 to 17, which will include music, games, open gym, food and more.

Doggy Derby Day at Opal Lawrence 

Join Historic Mesquite Inc. for Doggy Derby Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at Opal Lawrence Historical Park.

This free, Kentucky Derby-themed event will include a doggy hat decorating station, best hat contest for the dogs and treats for pets and humans. Mesquite Animal Services will be on site offering pet adoptions along with microchipping for pets for only $10.

All dogs must show proof of vaccination and be leashed at all times. Opal Lawrence Historical Park is located at 711 East Kearney Street. For more information, visit www.HistoricMesquite.org



Kids fishing from the bank of City Lake Park

Catch some fun at Family Fish, April 20

Grab your gear and get ready to catch some fun with the City of Mesquite’s Family Fish on Saturday, April 20.

The free event for all ages will be held from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at City Lake Park, 200 Parkview St.

The first 100 kids at the event will receive a free fishing rod while supplies last. Fishing bait, hooks and other materials will not be provided.

Family Fish attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the smallest or largest fish tournaments for prizes.

Mesquite Arts Center events in April

The Mesquite Community Band presents its spring concert, "Stormy Weather," from 7-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. The free concert will include "In Storm and Sunshine," "Through The Storm," "Cloudburst," "Lightning Field" and selections from "The Wizard of Oz." 

Through April 28, Mesquite Arts Theatre presents “Beer for Breakfast,” which tells the story of four middle-aged buddies who reunite for a guys’ weekend. They plan to party like it’s 1979 until one of the guys doesn’t show up… instead, his wife does. Hilarity ensues! Find ticket prices and showtime information at www.MesquiteArtsTheatre.org.

Channel your inner 80s alt rocker for the next Mesquite Rocks! concert on Thursday, April 18. The free outdoor concert will feature Le Cure, a tribute band entertaining audiences with hits from The Cure's 40 years-worth of hits.
