"Driveway service" trash collection focus to start on March 4 The Mesquite City Council has approved a change for trash collection that will focus on “driveway service.” Starting on March 4 trash will be collected at the end of residents’ driveways. The change will affect about 7,700 homes.
Collection days will not change, and the City will continue to assist elderly and disabled residents who let Solid Waste know they need help putting out their trash. Residents can visit www.cityofmesquite.com/SolidWaste to see maps of the areas affected by the change.
City officials made the change for selected areas due to the difficulty and danger of trash collection trucks negotiating older, narrow alleys. Switching to front driveway pickup in certain neighborhoods will make the alleys safer and cleaner, cause fewer ruts in the alleys and help trash vehicles avoid damage to fences and utilities. The change will help the City avoid spending an estimated $50 million in alleyway pavement repairs.

Annual water system maintenanceMesquite gets its water from the North Texas Municipal Water District or the Water District, which serves many communities in our area. Every March, the Water District conducts system maintenance to ensure the safety of our drinking water. Part of this maintenance process is a change in the disinfectant make-up of the water. The Water District has performed this process for more than 15 years. Disinfection is a critical part of the water treatment process that keeps drinking water free of harmful microorganisms, such as parasites and viruses. The City’s Utilities Division works closely with the Water District throughout this process. Water customers with questions or concerns can call 972-442-5405 or visit www.NTMWD.com/SafeWater to for more information.
