City Council to meet on Feb. 5

Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person.

Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com  or calling 972-329-8388 before 3 p.m. on Feb. 5. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Feb. 5 to the City Secretary.

Full On Fitness event flier

Full On Fitness event on Feb. 3


As part of its Get Fit Mesquite initiative, the City of Mesquite is hosting Full On Fitness on Feb. 3 to help residents stay strong in their health goals for the new year. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Florence Recreation Center, 2501 Whitson Way. The action-packed morning will be filled with a variety of free classes, onsite guidance from health professionals and free healthy snacks. Mesquite celebrates Black History Month with activities, events


Throughout February, the City of Mesquite will host events, activities and recognitions during Black History Month to honor the contributions of African Americans. Planned activities and observances include:

  •  On Feb. 24, Historic Mesquite, Inc., will present “Diversity in the West: Buffalo Soldiers,” a living history reenactment. Participants at the free event also can attend a talk entitled, “The Economic Impact of Black Cowboys: Yesterday & Today.” The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Opal Lawrence Historical Park, 711 E. Kearney St.
  • On Feb. 17, City Councilmember Brandon Murden will host a free educational event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave., in Training Rooms A&B. The event will include guest speakers and a panel discussion.

District 5 meeting

District 5 meeting to be held on Feb. 10 

City Councilmember B.W. Smith will host the District 5 Meeting at 10 a.m. on Feb. 10 at Rutherford Recreation Center, 900 Rutherford Dr. Residents in District 5 are invited to come hear updates and meet their Councilmember.

District meetings for individual City Councilmembers are planned throughout the spring as follows:

  • District 2 at 10 a.m. on March 23 at Florence Recreation Center
  • District 3 at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22 at Galloway Elementary School
  • District 4 at 7 p.m. on March 7 at Evans Recreation Center
  • District 6 at 7 p.m. on March 28 at B.J. Smith Elementary School

Chinese New Years Party on Feb. 10


Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with the Mesquite Library's Chinese New Years Party. Come make red envelopes and take-home paper dragons and participate in other activities to kick of a prosperous new year. The free event starts at 2 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Dr,

Daddy Daughter Dance on Feb. 17


Get ready to have a groovy time at the City of Mesquite’s annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Feb. 17. The disco-themed event will be held in two sessions at the Mesquite Convention Center, located at 1700 Rodeo Drive. Session 1 is from 4-6 p.m. and Session 2 from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $20 per person, per session. The dance is for all ages and includes light refreshments, live music, professional photography, themed selfie-stations and a raffle to win an American Girl doll. Souvenirs will be available for purchase, including custom stuffed teddy bears provided by Teddy Bear Mobile of North Dallas. Tickets are limited and will not be sold at the door. 2024 Neighborhood Summit on Feb. 24


The City of Mesquite is hosting the seventh annual Neighborhood Summit on Feb. 24 at the Mesquite Independent School District Professional Development Center Addition, 3819 Towne Crossing Blvd. The Neighborhood Summit is open to all residents and is free. It will feature guest speakers and more to educate and provide helpful tips on how to get involved with the City and your neighborhood. It also provides residents the opportunity to network with their neighbors and City staff. Registration and networking will begin at 8:15 a.m. the morning of the event. The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A continental breakfast will be available for attendees.
