City Council to meet Aug. 7
Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Aug. 7, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must pre-register by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com or calling 972-216-6244 before 3 p.m. on Aug. 7. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Aug. 7 to the City Secretary. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at watch Council Meetings.

Funds sought for Officer Houston II Highway
To honor the memory of fallen Mesquite Police Officer Richard Houston II, the Mesquite Police Association (MPA) Charities has created 821 Day, a campaign that will take place on Aug. 21. Named after Officer Houston’s badge number, on 821 Day participating area restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds to help pay for signage on a designated section of Interstate 635 as the Officer Richard Houston II Memorial Highway. Doggie Splash Day
Mesquite Parks and Recreation presents Doggie Splash Day on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at Vanston Pool located at 2913 Oates Drive. Dogs and their owners will have the opportunity to swim together and compete in contests and races for prizes. Pre-register online at Doggie Splash Day and receive a free puppaccino. Entry fees are $5 for one pet and one owner, $2 for each additional pet, and $1 for spectators. Pet owners must bring proof of current vaccinations.

Guts & Gory Zombie Fun
Zombies have been reported to be taking over the park at Camp Rorie Galloway. Do you have what it takes to survive and escape? Experience a zombie apocalypse at the “Guts and Gory” Zombie Run and challenge on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at Camp Rorie Galloway, 3100 Lawson Road. Mesquite Animal Shelter to offer free pet adoptions on Aug. 26
The Mesquite Animal Shelter, 1650 Gross Road, is once again participating in the national Clear the Shelters initiative that promotes pet adoption and donations in August. On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Animal Shelter will host a special one-day adoption event, waiving all fees. Shelter pets available for adoption are sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped. To see the pets currently in the shelter, visit animals in the shelter. Regular operating hours for the shelter are 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The shelter is also open from 1-5:30 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.

KMB to host 35th Anniversary
Butterfly Ball
Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) will celebrate its 35th anniversary from 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive, with dinner, drinks, live music, dancing, an auction, and much more. VIP reception starts at 6 p.m. general admission begins at 7 p.m. VIP tickets cost $100 each, while general admission tickets cost $75 each. Tickets may be purchased online at Butterfly Ball.
