City Council to meet on Jan. 17

Mesquite City Council meets Tuesday, Jan. 17 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Face coverings are optional for attendees, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. City holiday closure on Jan. 16

City offices and facilities will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 16 except for the Mesquite Metro Airport and Recreation Centers. No trash or recycling will be collected. Collection will resume on residents' next scheduled collection day.

Mesquite to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 14

On Jan. 14, Mesquite will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade through downtown. The celebration of Dr. King’s achievements will continue at 1 p.m. with a community celebration co-hosted by the City of Mesquite and the Mesquite Independent School District at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. The event will include speeches, choir presentations, and dances.

City launches new Mesquite Pay system

The City of Mesquite now offers a more secure, convenient, and user-friendly online payment system for its customers called Mesquite Pay. The new and improved system provides many benefits to customers for fast bill pay. The new features include: fast bill pay; an improved user experience; a “Pay Now” feature that allows for quick payment without having to register an account; and registered account enhancements, including the ability to view and pay multiple accounts at once as well as view payment history and consumption information. Tickets on sale now for 2023 Daddy Daughter Dance

Tickets are on sale now for the 2023 Daddy Daughter Dance. This annual event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18. The dance will have a Masquerade theme and will be held at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. City reports sales tax collections for January

The City of Mesquite January sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of November, was 6.9 percent above the amount reported for the same period last year. The current increase in sales activity is driven primarily by manufacturing, construction, and wholesale trade. Sales tax contributes 27 percent of the total revenue used to support the General Fund. The City uses the General Fund for services including police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, neighborhood services and public works.
