City Council to meet Sept. 19


Mesquite City Council meets September 19 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Face coverings are optional for attendees, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. September 19 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216- 6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on September 19 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

Library Card Sign-Up Month


September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the City of Mesquite is encouraging residents to visit one of the Mesquite Public Libraries to sign up. To apply for a card, visit the Mesquite Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive, or the North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Drive. Library cards are free for Mesquite residents and for Mesquite ISD students and staff. Learn more

Mesquite BRE hosts Manufacturing Day


The Mesquite Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) Partnership will host a Manufacturing Day for the manufacturing and career and technical education student communities on Friday, Oct. 14 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Learn more and register here.

Guts & Gory Zombie Fun Run 


Experience a zombie apocalypse at the “Guts and Gory” Zombie Fun Run and Challenge on Sept. 17 at Camp Rorie Galloway, 3100 Lawson Road. There are two ways to participate, either as a runner or as part of the zombie horde. To register, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/GutsAndGoryRun.

Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. to host Trash Bash on Sept. 24 


Keep Mesquite Beautiful (KMB) will hold its volunteer cleanup event, Trash Bash, on Sept. 24. Trash Bash is an opportunity for families, neighbors and groups to get outside and help beautify the Mesquite community. Volunteers are asked to preregister here to help event organizers coordinate supplies and cleanup site locations.

Special Event Permit


The City of Mesquite requires permits for most events that involve a large gathering of people on public property, as well as some events on private property. Any event that requires the closing of roads or restricts access to public property, such as a parade or run, will require a permit. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/SpecialPermits for more information.

September Sales Tax

The City of Mesquite September sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of July, was 7.9 percent above the amount reported for the same period last year.  The current increase in sales activity is driven by wholesale trade, manufacturing, utilities, home furnishings and improvements.  Sales tax contributes 28 percent of the total revenue used to support the General Fund.  The City uses the General Fund for services including police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, neighborhood services and public works.
