City Council meets on August 1 


Mesquite City Council meets August 1 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Face coverings are optional for attendees, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. August 1 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216- 6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on August 1 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

Mesquite receives distinct award 


The City of Mesquite has been awarded the Certificate of Distinction from the Government Treasurers’ Organization of Texas (GTOT) for maintaining a comprehensive written investment policy that fully complies with the Texas Public Funds Investment Act (PFIA). Learn more here.

Doggie Splash Day on Aug. 6


Dogs and their owners are invited to splash and play at the 18th annual Doggie Splash Day on Saturday, Aug. 6. The event will be from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Vanston Pool, 2913 Oates Drive. Admission is $5 for one owner and one pet, $2 for each additional pet and $1 for all spectators. Participants who bring a jar of peanut butter or jelly to support the Spread the Love campaign will receive $2 off admission. Learn more.

McWhorter School Park improvements


Just in time for National Park and Recreation Month, the City of Mesquite is rolling out improvements to McWhorter School Park. The project renews and refreshes the park and makes way for two new recreation activities. Read more.

Spread the Love this summer

Spread the Love is an annual campaign that runs through Labor Day that encourages the donation of peanut butter and jelly as well as financial contributions to help feed children in Mesquite during the summer who live in food insecure environments. These children receive free or reduced lunch during the school year but need assistance to receive nutritious lunch during the summer break. Learn more.

Mesquite Championship Rodeo


The Mesquite Championship Rodeo (MCR) is at the Mesquite Arena, 1818 Rodeo Drive for the summer. MCR will take place every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. until Aug. 27. For more than 60 years, MCR has entertained families with thrilling rodeo events such as saddle bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing, team roping and more. Mesquite residents and businesses get half off rodeo tickets at the box office all season. Trash Cart Program


The Trash Cart Program began on June 1, 2022, to provide an affordable, uniform container that meets the intent of the ordinance. Enrollment in the program is optional for existing Mesquite residents, but required with a new utility account. The one-time cart fee may be paid in full or over a three-month period which will be charged on the resident’s utility bill.
