Neighborhood Summit to be held
on Feb. 26 

The City of Mesquite is hosting its fifth annual Neighborhood Summit on Feb. 26 at the Mesquite Independent School District Professional Development Center, 3819 Towne Crossing Blvd. The event is free and open to all Mesquite residents. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with their neighbors and City staff while learning more about the community. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. The program will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A continental breakfast for attendees will also be available. Tickets to the 2022 Daddy Daughter Dance, The Greatest Dance on Earth, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19, are now on sale. Tickets may be purchased online at www.cityofmesquite.com/PARD as well as at all recreation centers and the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 1515 North Galloway Ave. The dance will be held at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. Advanced ticket purchase is required. Tickets are $15 per person, per session, and are open to all ages. Tickets are limited and will not be sold at the door.

City announces sales tax activity for November 2021

The January sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of November, for the City of Mesquite, were 26% above the amount reported for the same period last year.  The increase in sales tax activity this period is driven primarily by general retail sales along with building and home furnishings, wholesale trade and manufacturing.  Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the General Fund.  The City uses the General Fund for services including police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, neighborhood services and public works. The City of Mesquite is looking for new partners to serve on its boards and commissions. City boards and commissions are comprised of citizens willing to volunteer their time, knowledge and expertise to help make a difference in our community. Duties may include serving in an advisory capacity to the City Council, examining in-depth plans on development, evaluating City services and projects, and making decisions on various requests from citizens.
