Mesquite, TX – May 1, 2019 – The City of Mesquite will host a series of public education meetings to provide the community an opportunity to learn more about the new single member district structure of the City Council. The meetings are scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 7 p.m., Rutherford Recreation Center, 900 Rutherford Drive; Tuesday, May 21, 7 p.m., Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue; and Thursday, May 23, 7 p.m., Florence Recreation Center, 2501 Whitson Way.
City Manager Cliff Keheley said, “We are putting forth the effort and time to provide as much information as possible on single member districts to our citizens, potential candidates and registered voters to engage our community in this important process.”
Keheley stated the meetings will offer information on the new single member district boundaries, insight into serving on City Council, an understanding of the Council-Manager form of government and the City Council agenda process as well as details on how City Council meetings are conducted. There will also be presentations on the City’s budget and instructions for those interested in filing for their candidacy to serve on the City Council.
The City’s public education program will also include access to maps of the new single member districts, voter registration opportunities and more.

Friday, June 21 Filing packets are available to Mesquite City Council candidates
Monday, July 22 First day for candidates to file to be placed on the ballot
Monday, August 19 Last day for candidates to file to be placed on the ballot
Monday, October 7 Last day for residents to register to vote in 2019 elections
Monday, October 21 First day for registered voters to vote early in the 2019 elections
Friday, November 1 Last day for registered voters to vote early in the 2019 elections
Tuesday, November 5 2019 Election Day
