Mesquite, TX - August 16, 2018 - Members of the Mesquite Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association (MCPAAA) recently attended the Texas Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association convention in Allen, Texas, where they received the 2018 Alumni Membership of the Year award.
The award was one of only four awards presented at the state convention. Award criteria included membership growth and volunteer hours performed throughout the year in support of local law enforcement.
In 2017, the MCPAAA’s membership grew by 34 members and the organization provided more than 9,000 volunteer hours to such programs as community fingerprinting of children, Sky Watch, National Night Out and Fatal Vision, a program that teaches youth about the dangers of impaired driving.
“The MCPAAA continues to be an invaluable resource for the Mesquite Police Department and community,” said Police Chief Charles Cato. “We simply could not provide the same level of service and number of programs without their help and dedication.”
There are currently more than 400 Citizen Police Academy Alumni Associations in the state of Texas. This is the third time the MCPAAA has received this prestigious award. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/CitizensPoliceAcademy for information about the Mesquite Citizens’ Police Academy.
