Mesquite, TX – March 6, 2018 – Mesquite took another step closer last night towards building a new Veterans Memorial in the community with the City Council’s approval to purchase residential property at 425 S. Galloway Avenue near City Lake Park for $185,000 as a part of its downtown infrastructure improvement plans.
Mayor Stan Pickett said, “This property purchase demonstrates the City Council’s support of a new Veterans Memorial being built in our community. The parcel will be a part of the expansion of City Lake Park through our master plan for that area which will help us connect the park to our downtown. The memorial will be an important part of this infrastructure. We look forward to more financial support from the community to make the memorial a reality in the next few years.”
A community-wide effort to raise public awareness and funding for a new Veterans Memorial was launched in November 2017. The current memorial is a plaque in Heritage Square located in historic downtown Mesquite.
