Mesquite, TX – February 23, 2018 – The City of Mesquite received the 2017 Community Impact award from Sharing Life Community Outreach for the Spread the Love peanut butter and jelly drive that helps feed children during the summer. These are children who live in food insecure homes and who receive free or reduced lunch during the school year.
Teresa Jackson, Executive Director of Sharing Life Community Outreach, said, “It has been very successful. We now count on this program to feed our kids over the summer. It is a phenomenal program. They have literally spread the love all over Mesquite.”
Jackson indicated they created this new award to recognize significant endeavors and projects where many people have come together to create momentum and do something extraordinary for Sharing Life and the community.
The Spread the Love campaign started in 2016. In the program’s two years, the campaign has raised enough donations of peanut butter and jelly to make more than 40,000 sandwiches. In addition, it has raised thousands of dollars from corporate, civic and private supporters to purchase additional peanut butter and jelly. The program also supports Mesquite Social Services.
Sharing Life Community Outreach is a member of the North Texas Food Bank Feeding Network. As a Community Distribution Partner, the organization is able to distribute food closer to where people in need live.
