“Many trunk-or-treat participants may be easily tempted to let down their guard since someone will remain with the vehicle to hand out candy,” said Mesquite Police Officer Torrey Rhone. “But these events create a great deal of distraction and criminals will see this as the perfect opportunity to burglarize cars. It only takes 10 seconds for you to take your keys, lock your car and hide your valuables. It take about 20 seconds for thieves to break into your car.”
