The Mesquite Animal Shelter is full and is seeking the public’s support. Animal Services Manager Jeanne Saadi said, “We are out of space and can’t take any more kittens or cats. In order to get more cats and kittens adopted, we are offering two adoption specials. Adopters can get two cats or kittens for the price of one or we will also waive adoption fees for cats and kittens in exchange for donations of canned or dry kitten food, KMR kitten formula, nursing bottles or heating pads.” For details, call the shelter at (972) 216-6283.
The public is cautioned not to bring kittens to the Mesquite Animal Shelter if they appear to be less than two months old with no mother in sight. Many times the mother has gone to find food for herself and will leave her kittens for a short time period with plans to return.
Saadi advised, “If the cats are clean and quiet, the mother cat is likely nearby. If they are dirty and loud and the mother cat has not shown up in a short period of time, they have probably been abandoned.” She added that in order to provide the best care for these orphaned cats, Mesquite Animal Services is in need of more foster homes that can bottle feed or care for the kittens until they are approximately two months old.”
